    As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) coordinates new and longstanding student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

    We provide an array of direct services, supporting students on the college-going pathway through tutoring, mentoring, academic planning and counseling, leadership training, test preparation, college awareness and enrichment, and teacher professional development.

    GEAR UP, under the umbrella of the EPC, serves under-represented students from Monterey and Santa Cruz counties and is designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the general supervision of the GEAR UP Partnership Engagement Manager, the GEAR UP Special Projects Coordinator will help in the planning, designing and implementation of new initiatives for GEAR UP programs that serve middle and high school students by increasing access to higher education for underrepresented students across the counties of Monterey and Santa Cruz.

    These initiatives may include, but are not limited to:

    contributing to the development and/or expansion of GEAR UP partnerships, event planning, in-kind collection, and newsletter and social media support.

    The GEAR UP Special Projects Coordinator will also work closely with the GEAR UP Partnership Engagement Manager to strengthen and support partnership networks in service regions, contribute to training for staff, develop an alumni network, support event planning, coordination and implementation, and support other special projects co-developed by the GEAR UP team.


    APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

    Budgeted Salary:
    $61,500 - $65,260/Annually . Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

    Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role.

    The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

    JOB DUTIES

    • Responsible for developing and implementing special projects initiatives with the GEAR UP Partnership Engagement Manager and GEAR UP staff. Participates in and contributes to strategic program planning to develop initiatives that best serve cohort students and families. Plans and implements initiatives, evaluates outcomes of initiatives, and ensures goals and objectives are met. Designs and implements gradeappropriate collegegoing workshops, field trips, curricula, materials and activities. Implements and facilitates recruitment for events. Develops collaborative relationships with other collegegoing programs and K14 higher education personnel. Serves on department, organization, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies.

    • Develops partnerships / networks with K12, higher education institutions, and community organizations. Develops relationships with alumni and creates opportunities for alumni engagement in programming. Contributes to the drafting of GEAR UP's newsletter and social media campaigns to increase partner engagement in GEAR UP initiatives. Contributes to the collection, analysis, and evaluation of inkind data. Participates in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for inkind data collection processes.

    • Assists with the entry of inkind and student and family contact data in appropriate databases. Produces inkind reports on a regular basis, and maintains tracking and summary tools.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/training.
    Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
    Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
    Knowledge of issues facing low income, first generation, and urban youth. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
    Ability to establish and maintains cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
    Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
    Strong interpersonal skills, including presentation, communication, negotiation, leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
    Experience designing, implementing and monitoring academic/enrichment programs or events.
    Organizational and project management skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    Ability to work under pressure in a variety of settings and to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
    Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse individuals and institutions.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Bilingual (Spanish/English).

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
    Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
    Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
    Ability to perform essential physical job functions.

    Will be required to work a hybrid work schedule, days of the week and number of days to be determined, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.

    Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
    Selected candidate will be required to take a TB test within 60 days of hire.
    Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
    Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
    Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area.
    Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
