    Job Description

    The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our team as a Community Engagement Specialist to support our Federation of Block Units Public Safety Collaborative.

    The Community Engagement Specialist works with community action groups, including auxiliaries of the agency, to coordinate and develop programs to assist neighborhoods with the development and implementation of community-based action plans for neighborhood stabilization.

    The Specialist will:

    • Support community awareness and collaboration with community partners beyond the STLPSC.
    • Co-lead conversations at bi-monthly STLPSC Implementation Strategy meetings.
    • Promote community participation and awareness of Intervention Strategies Project Plan.
    • Support the creation and launch of the STLPSC website.
    • Support the creation of marketing materials including website updates, fliers, and public engagement notices.
    • Communicate Intervention Strategies Project Plan and Intervention Strategies Project Updates to the community.
    • Engage and collaborate with key community stakeholders, including residents, businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies.
    • Attend events and public safety conferences to discuss the STLPSC.
    • Create and maintain a social media presence in collaboration with the Vice President of Communications.

    The ideal candidate must have:

    • The ability to improve existing programs as well as create new programs.
    • Excellent customer service.
    • The ability to establish work priorities and remain flexible.
    • Efficiently respond calmly and effectively to a variety of demands and projects.
    • Communicate clearly and distinctly with visitors and telephone callers, provide courteous information and service to the public, and organize and maintain record and filing systems.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature.
    • Knowledge of common software applications.
    • Bachelor's Degree in social work or related human service field with coursework in public administration is preferred.
    • Two years of experience working with clients of all demographics and the general community are desirable.
