    Job Overview
    We're looking for someone to join VRChat's Data team as a Data Engineer to continue to improve and transform our expanding data capabilities. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining and optimizing our data and analytics stack. You will work closely with data scientists and engineers to build and improve VRChat's data and analytics stack. This includes data pipelines, designing and implementing efficient and reliable ETL processes, managing data storage solutions, and ensuring the seamless integration of diverse data sources. Your role will be crucial in optimizing data flows for real-time analytics, supporting the scalability of our data infrastructure, and enabling comprehensive data analysis to inform strategic decisions.

    Your ultimate goal as part of the data team will be to enable the entire VRChat team and worldwide community to craft incredible immersive social experiences. Your expertise in building and maintaining robust data infrastructure is essential to the team's success in data-driven initiatives.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop and enhance VRChat's data pipelines, ensuring efficient data flow and integration.
    • Design and implement robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to handle large volumes of data efficiently and reliably.
    • Manage and optimize data storage solutions, ensuring data availability and security.
    • Integrate diverse data sources, facilitating comprehensive data analysis and decision-making processes.
    • Support the scalability and performance of the data infrastructure to accommodate growing data needs.
    • Monitor data system performance, identifying and resolving issues to ensure uninterrupted data processing and analysis.
    • Play a pivotal role as a key stakeholder in defining and establishing schema best practices, ensuring optimal data structure design and management in line with industry standards.
    • Stay updated with the latest technologies and practices in data engineering to continually improve VRChat's data capabilities.
    • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and ethical standards in data handling, prioritizing user privacy and data security.

    Experience, Skills & Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
    • 5+ years of relevant experience at high-growth companies.
    • Proven experience in data engineering, with a strong background in designing and building scalable data pipelines.
    • Experience with cloud computing services (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure).
    • Experience with cloud based databases and data warehouse solutions (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, MongoDB).
    • Experience with cloud ETL tools (e.g. Fivetran, Hevo, Glue).
    • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Javascript, or Scala.
    • A track record of successful collaboration in cross-functional teams, particularly with data scientists and software engineers.
    • Strong expertise in SQL and experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment that required balancing competing priorities.
    • Highly-organized and effectively able to hit deliverable deadlines with high quality output and outcomes.
    • Self-starter with an independent drive that can successfully follow through on initiatives
    • Ability to act fast and adapt to quickly changing situations.
    • Professionalism and integrity.

    Bonus Points

    • Experience in social platforms or social gaming.
    • A basic understanding of Unity 3D.
    • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of VR and online communities
    • Certifications in relevant technologies or platforms (e.g. SnowPro, AWS Certified Data Analytics) are a plus.
