Description
Manage multiple design projects (mix of existing product and new product development) from inception to production focusing on cost, quality, and safety and on time delivery targets.
Develop and manage project schedules, teams and resources related to modification of existing product designs and new product development as applicable and develop aggressive yet realistic project deadlines.
Keep leadership informed of project status through communication and providing various reports as requested.Participate and lead cross-functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
Assume ownership for maintenance and updates for purchased part engineering drawings, standards, specifications, and work instructions.
Define and implement continuous improvement opportunities, lean initiatives, and design for manufacturing (DFM) tools.
Assist with product design by providing guidance based on technical knowledge and experience.
Leverage engineering analytical tools (e.g., tolerance stacks, FE, and CFD analyses) to facilitate product design.
Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
Support agency certifications for both safety (UL, ETL) and performance (DOE, AHRI).
Interface with regulatory agencies and test agencies such as ASHRAE, AHRI, UL and ETL
Mentor team members to prepare them for greater responsibility within the organization.
Perform additional project / job duties as required by Management.
Nature and Scope

Lead projects from inception to completion while meeting quality, safety, testing, costs and on time delivery expectations
Knowledge and Skills
Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design engineering theory and practice.
Knowledge of refrigeration and/or air conditioning design and application with specific emphasis on international production
Technical understanding of vapor compression system, fluid mechanics, fans, blowers, compressors, TXVs, evaporator and condenser design/selection.
Experience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles.
Knowledge of specifications and international standards used in the Global HVAC industryExperience working in the regulatory environment and aware of the standards- AHRI, ASHRAE, UL.
Working knowledge with computer simulations and 3D CAD systems
Proficient software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project
Demonstrated capability of leading engineers to complete projects on time, and meeting cost and quality objectives
Strong and Effective Project Management skills; effective Organizational and Time management skills
Excellent Analytical and Problem-Solving skills
Effective Communication and Collaboration skills; Team player and establish Positive working relationships with internal and external customers
Ability to apply good Judgement, strong Work Ethics and Integrity on the job.
Experience
10+ years of progressive HVAC industry related experience with product design, development and launch
5 plus years of project management experience
Education
BS in Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial/Product Design or related engineering degree, MS preferred.
Six Sigma certification - preferred / Black belt or green belt certification - preferred
