Schedule: Full-Time - On-site (Monday-Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm)
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant is responsible for the cost accounting and general accounting functions. This position has direct daily involvement with their division manager and occasional involvement with other senior management. The person in this role has an opportunity for advancement within the company if appropriate skills and abilities are exhibited.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The company reserves the right to add to, delete, change or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.
1. Assist CFO in planning and fulfilling agency requirements. Reconciliation of all agency accounts (checking, payroll, money market). Maintain all contract files, journals and ledgers. Perform and monitor a variety of accounting activities for Your Outreach Properties, Inc.
2. Evaluating, developing, and improving department controls, systems, and procedures, increasing accuracy and efficiency.
3. Maintain the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries, accounting analysis and reconciliation, and the monthly closing of the books.
4. Analyzing financial data and creating reports for management, stakeholders, and external parties, such as vendors and lenders.
5. Assist in physical audits and reconciliation of all inventories.
6. Assisting other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business.
7. Prepare and review income/expenses to assist in the annual planning cycle.
8. Provide functional backup on accounts payable/accounts receivable.
9. Keeping informed on the latest developments in the finance industry.
10. Ensuring that all accounting processes align with GAAP and current financial legislation.
11. Perform other duties as directed by the CFO.
12. Document and report all income and expenses related to the programs. Oversee accounts payable, the computerized accounting system, and month-end closing.
13. Process Bi-Weekly Payroll and Payroll related benefits and enter the appropriate journal entries into the accounting system
14. Participate in the agency's ongoing quality improvement efforts.
15. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and constituencies.
16. The Agency may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.); and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Accounting experience is required. Previous non for profit experience required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
With the use of a calculator, the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Through the use of a spreadsheet software package, ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
