Description
Overview
The New York Public Library is looking for a talented looking for a Program Manager to join our expanding technology training team and help New Yorkers improve their digital literacy.
This position is for someone interested in community development through education.Reporting to the Associate Director, the Manager will supervise a diverse group of technology professionals and support the implementation of strategic initiatives.
Additionally, the Manager will support the wider TechConnect department in the design and implementation of new educational offerings.
The NYPL offers technology classes, both online and in-person, at more than 80 libraries across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island.
We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own :
Managing 7 technology professionals
Teach :
Best practices to direct reports, adult learners attending TechConnect classes, and support staff looking to upskill to deliver TechConnect programs at their branch
Learn:
New and emerging technologies to be incorporated into management of projects and the classroom setting
Improve :
Processes for peak efficiency as well as library patrons' learning experience and knowledge of emerging technologies
Some expectations for this role are that within:1 month , this person will:
Onboard, visit branches, interact with stakeholders including Library Managers, create goals with their manager
3 months , this person will:
Contribute to departmental projects and provide instructor-led tech classes as needed
6 months and beyond , this person will:
Initiate outreach with potential partners/organizations, identify and provide solutions for gaps in service, and support NYPL initiatives
Responsibilities
As a Program Manager, you will
Provide Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting monthly
Manage daily aspects of the Technology Training Program as determined by Associate Director
Create and conduct surveys to evaluate and assess the impact of the programs
Assist with curriculum development
Manage retention of students with Technology Instructors
Initiate outreach with potential partners and/or organizations to create new opportunities while maintaining existing relationships
Assist with budget management
Conduct instructor-led tech classes as needed
Travel throughout Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx as needed
Performs ad-hoc project related duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree
Required Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Prior experience teaching/instructing/training adults in technology
Experience with project or program management
Extensive knowledge of Mac and PC platforms
Strong aptitude for learning new and emerging technologies quickly
Required Skills
Ability to shift gears in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively across many different Library departments
Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; Commitment to diversity and inclusion
Familiarity with communities being served, with knowledge and understanding of local needs and resources
Demonstrated knowledge of technology and technology trends
Outstanding interpersonal and written skills, including listening and communicating authentically and effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including branch staff and external partners
Ability to coordinate work with many different external constituencies
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide support for and professional development to technology professionals
Manage schedules of direct reports
