    Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Director of Programming and Events is responsible for producing major meetings, overseeing affiliate memberships, staffing several committees and related groups, and serves as the primary contact for client associations and the Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation. A primary focus of this position is to produce quality programs that meet the learning and development needs of our members and generate non-dues revenue to support MBA.

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS*

    Major Meetings and Seminars

    Develop and manage approximately a dozen major meetings and seminars each year including the Annual Convention, Annual Meeting, and Bank Expo tradeshow. Convene advisory groups when appropriate to ensure programs are meeting the needs of members. Develop budgets, arrange speakers, obtain sponsorships, negotiate and organize facilities/venues, direct marketing efforts, design brochures, oversee preparation of handouts, attend meetings, and provide follow-up evaluation and billing. Write introductory remarks for the emcee of each event. Responsible for generating net revenue to MBA by controlling expenses and maximizing registration and sponsorship income.

    Affiliate Members

    Manage renewal of MBA affiliate members and solicit new members. Manage affiliate member sponsorship income for major meetings via an annual solicitation and specific follow-up marketing efforts for each event. Maintain and continually add to database of potential vendors and trade show exhibitors.

    Committees

    Manage meetings of assigned standing committees and advisory and working groups. Plan and manage the annual Committee Leadership Council Meeting (CLC) where chairs of all the committees discuss priorities for the upcoming year.

    Northern New England School of Banking

    Participate in annual board meeting. Work collaboratively with NH and VT Bankers Associations on the annual school to find speakers, conduct marketing efforts, and provide onsite support during the multi-day meeting.

    Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation (MeHEAF)

    Manage all aspects of the MeHEAF, including coordination with 16 college campuses on the selection of scholarship recipients. Award scholarships at each college, prepare press releases, fundraise for the Foundation, and report to MeHEAF board and MBA CEOs.

    National Bank Association Education Planners

    Participate in a yearly conference with bank education planners from associations around the country. Participate in quarterly calls and lead calls for the New England regional group.

    Association Services, Inc. (ASI) Clients

    Under Association Services, Inc., provide support for Risk Management Association. Develop annual meetings, monthly board meetings, seminars, and other training sessions. Organize facility arrangements and prepare meeting announcements. Attend meetings, preparing minutes and notes as needed. Oversee preparation of handouts and other materials. Write presidents' remarks, speaker introductions, and annual business portion of annual meetings. Serve as a central location for all RMA correspondence, answer questions, and refer to board, as necessary.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Represent MBA on New England-wide educational committees: the Tri-State Trust Conference Committee; Tri-State Mortgage Committee; New England School for Financial Studies; Northern New England School of Banking.

    Participate on other boards as necessary.

    Provide an update on program activities for quarterly Executive Committee meetings and contribute materials as appropriate.

    Build and maintain relationships with institutions for a bench of speakers and learning and development opportunities for bankers.

    Other duties as assigned by the President.

    SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED

    Four years of college or equivalent experience required.

    Applicant should be skilled in organizational and task management, verbal and written communications, and small and large group presentations.

    Knowledge of conference planning, budgeting, marketing, hiring of facilities and speakers and a good working knowledge of the industry's educational needs is preferred.

    Ability to work independently as well as the ability to interact with member bank officers with professionalism.

    Experience in word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, database required. Familiarity with Adobe suite preferred.

    Travel within Maine will require an automobile and valid driver's license. Some events are multi-day and will require an overnight stay at the event venue.

    Candidate must have a valid passport or be able to obtain a passport no later than September 1, 2024.
