The University of Southern Maine's Department of Literacy, Language and Culture invites applicants for a part-time faculty position to teach an undergraduate course, Foundations of Cultural and Linguistic Diversity, for our Fall 2024 Semester beginning September 3, 2024.


Foundations of Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (EDU 305) - This course supports students in exploring and critically analyzing topics, themes, and issues related to cultural and linguistic diversity and helps them build a strong theoretical and practical foundation for becoming successful multicultural educators. _This course is taught during the day on the Gorham Campus (schedule to come)._

USM's Department of Literacy, Language and Culture program recognizes the challenges that readers and writers face today.

Embracing both tradition and innovation, we explore established and emergent teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse PreK-12 learners.

We prepare our graduate students to design and implement literacy instruction at all levels while emphasizing cross-cultural competence.

The Department is a part of the School of Education and Human Development, which is housed within the College of Management and Human Service.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience.

In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s).

USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field.
  • PreK 12 teaching experience.
