The West Shore School District has the Supervisor of Transportation position at the Administration Center available for the school year.

It is a 245-day administrative position.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma.
  • Five years successful experience in transportation with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Compliance with employment eligibility, including all required background checks, and physical examination/TB test standards.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL:

To assist the Director of Operations and Planning in allowing each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities offered by the District.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Oversees the operation of the contracted services that provide transportation to our students.
  • Reads and abides by the Pennsylvania School laws and regulations, federal and state laws and regulations governing educational and civil rights of students and others, Child Protective Services Act, the policies of the Board of Education, administrative manuals, and the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing, with the administrative staff, professional and support staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Ensures all drivers licenses and clearances are up to date and in compliance with required annual review of Department of Transportation driver record.
  • Possesses and applies computer skills to the job, and is able to engage in repetitive hand movements as required for using the computer.
  • Operates office machines, files materials in filing cabinets, and is able to lift and carry no less than fifty pounds.
  • Prepares and maintains all required records and reports.
  • Completes annual assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Initiates and participates in activities designed to further the completion of approved District/building/personal goals and objectives.
  • Ensures the highest degree of confidentiality appropriate to the position.
  • Works the hours inherent to the position, including early morning, evening, and overnight as necessary.
  • Maintains valid PA driver's license, operates all vehicles in a safe manner, and maintains a safe driving record.
  • Conforms with all state laws and regulations and District guidelines regarding school transportation.
  • Designs routes and schedules for buses to transport pupils to and from schools and school activities in the shortest possible time at the lowest possible cost.
  • Oversees and recommends personnel to be Board approved for the contracted service in accordance with District policies.
  • Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety.
  • Ensures that the contractor provides a bus driver training program that meets all requirements of state law and provides for Federal, State, and District updates.
  • Ensures that all buses and service vehicles are well maintained and inspected according to law.
  • Maintains complete and proper records on all vehicles, including vehicle accident reports.
  • Assists in the development and administration of the transportation portion of the District budget.
  • Prepares specifications and assists with bidding relative to transportation items.
  • Coordinates the purchase of parts and supplies needed for vehicles and ensures that all parts and supplies are strictly accounted for.
  • Provides transportation for athletic events and field trips, as required by appropriate supervisors, reporting cost and category to the business office and invoicing buildings.
  • Assists in the solution of behavior problems on buses through meetings with principals, parents, the contractor and drivers, as necessary.
  • Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
  • Handles complaints regarding the performance of bus drivers and provides recommendations to contractor supervisor.
  • Supervises and evaluates all transportation department employees in conjunction with supervisor.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as from time to time may be assigned by the Director of Operations and Planning or the Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month work year (245 days)

Compensation per District guidelines.


EVALUATION:

Performance of the Supervisor of Transportation will be evaluated by the Director of Operations and Planning in accordance with the approved _Administrative Performance Plan_.

Pay:
$70, $98,329.00 per year
