    Definition of Classification:

    The Associate Director of Diversity Initiatives is a leadership position that promotes an inclusive and equitable environment for the University of Redlands. Proactively support the campus community on diversity, multicultural programming, and cultural pluralism, working collaboratively with individuals, departments, and offices to build a welcoming and inclusive culture.

    Reporting to the Director of Diversity Initiatives, this position manages and supervises the work-study students, interns, and volunteers in the Multicultural Center, Pride Center, Women & Gender Justice Center, I'm Going to College (IGTC), and First-Generation Student Programs.

    This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    WORK-STUDY/INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
    • Oversees the daily operations and accountability to ensure all assignments are complete and the internship is meaningful for undergraduate or graduate students; provides opportunities for interns to gain experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice in alignment with the University's strategic plan and commitment to an equitable and inclusive community for everyone; sets the tone of a respectful, safe, and clean workplace balanced with fun and positive energy.
    • Ensures interns understand assignments are a one-year position requiring interviews.
    • Schedules interviews to include the Director of Diversity Initiatives to provide feedback on all candidates.
    • Ensures required training is completed throughout the term (e.g., Onboarding Checklist, Safe Space Facilitator Training, 25 Live Training, Sexual Harassment Online Training through Human Resources, Campus Wide Posting & Advertising Policy, Listening Project Training, Social Media Roles & Responsibilities, Community Guidelines, and Event Planning & Communications.
    • Facilitates weekly meetings with published agendas and minutes (1:1 or group meetings) to provide relevant information updates and seek feedback, including but not limited to the "pulse" of the communities served.
    • Conducts end-of-term evaluations and administers internship experience surveys.
    • Supports interns with the student-led programs and events they host (e.g., performance agreements, W9 forms, Certificate of Insurance, financial oversight, and logistics as outlined by the Event Planning & Communication worksheet.
    • Works closely with Event Services and Harvest Table to ensure event set-up, take-down process, and outside food vendors are consistent with expectations.
    FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
    • Budgeting responsibilities include scheduled hours of CDI interns regarding their work award, fees, and timely reconciliation associated with the I'm Going to College (IGTC), Summer Bridge, STEP, Book Lending Program, Multicultural Festival, First-Gen Students Recognition, and the Lavender Ceremony.
    FIRST-GENERATION STUDENTS PROGRAM (FGSP)
    • Develop strategies and implement programs that assist in the transition, development, and retention of first-generation college students through the following programs: I'm Going to College, Summer Bridge, Book Lending Program, and STEP.
    • Designs and facilitates peer-led educational programs for first-generation students; meets with Cal Grant students to provide a pseudo-liaison interaction to assist with college transition.
    • Serves as a resource for first-generation students through Summer Bridge; in collaboration with the Admissions Office, makes regular contact to answer questions.
    • Aids CDI's student-led mentoring, outreach, and peer-education programs and provides feedback on student presentation performance in STEP.
    • Assists with connecting first-generation students with the University community and introducing them to various resources, clubs/organizations, alumni, and academic support systems.
    CENTERS
    • Oversees the student-managed centers' day-to-day operations, including managing the budget, hiring, training, and supervising work-study; addresses immediate safety concerns and has the authority to make decisions regarding the centers' policies and procedures, which include: The Pride Center, Gender Justice Center, and Multicultural Center.
    CASE MANAGEMENT
    • Work with other campus departments and organizations to support students in crisis.
    EVENTS & PROGRAMS
    • Supports the Director of Diversity Initiatives with initiating and assisting with awareness programs and events that include many formats: tabling in high-traffic campus areas, guest speakers, film screenings, social media outreach, Zoom/WebEx, and other mediums that will have the most significant impact.
    • Plans the core/signature events with the student-led organizations (e.g., diversity, academic, and Greek Life) to ensure that attention is placed on intersecting identities.

      • Multicultural Festival
      • The First-Gen Students Recognition Ceremony

    CONSULTATION WITH CAMPUS CONSTITUENTS
    • Collaborates with key stakeholders to increase visibility and representation across campus (e.g., Johnston Center for Integrative Studies. Title IX, Accessibility Services, CARE Team, and Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD).
    • Participate in orientation programs to welcome and inform students.
    • Maintains a leadership role in no more than two committees in an academic year that is both on-campus and in the local community that supports your portfolio of work.
    COMMITTEES

    COMMUNICATIONS
    • Leverages communication channels to keep the University community informed on the following: First-Gen Students Programs (FGSP), events, and programs.
    • Initiates quarterly check-ins with the Annexstad Foundation scholars once they are identified and communicated by Student Financial Services.
    • Provides quarterly reports (e.g., September, December, March, and June) to Advancement, Student Financial Services, and the Director of Diversity Initiatives.
    • Attends the annual Annexstad Foundation luncheon on the main Redlands campus.
    OTHER
    • Supports communities not represented by a current center because of an increase in engagement and greater representation wanted by students not currently represented by an existing center.
    • Creates and maintains strong partnerships with campus units to produce and cultivate high-impact co-curricular environments that promote student success.
    • Ensures the coordination, continuity, and support of existing programs such as Heritage Month events, cultural recognition celebrations, and diversity workshops.
    • Builds collaborative relationships with faculty, campus units, and culturally based faculty and staff associations to ensure programs strongly support student learning, the university's mission, and strategic plan.
    • Develop innovative programs that strengthen the quality of services provided to students of varying backgrounds.
    • Supervises, plans, directs and assigns work of assigned staff; makes hiring and disciplinary decisions; provides feedback on performance and approves timesheets.
    • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
    Qualifications Guidelines

    Experience/Training/Education:

    Required
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Three years of relevant work experience.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class "C" driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
    Preferred
    • Master's degree.
    • Experience in an academic environment.
    • Experience in cultural change management.
    • Experience in educational access, retention, and completion efforts.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

    Working Conditions:

    Standard office setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.

    Physical Demands:

    Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; may travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

    HIRING RANGE: The anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with the candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.

    BACKGROUND CHECK:Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.     PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS:For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics, and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
