    Director of Community Programs and Advocacy - Columbus, United States - Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities

    Description

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Provides strategic direction for community programs and administrative advocacy across the agency.

    Represents issues and program needs internally and with the community by upholding the rights, dignity and respect of all persons served while promoting independence and self-advocacy skills for all persons served.

    Represents the agency on local and state committees; including, but not limited to:
    Franklin County Family and Children First Council Oversight Sub-Committee.

    Oversees the Departments of School and Transition Services and Communications, Advocacy and Community Relations.


    As such, provides overall management and strategic leadership of the School-age program, focusing on transition-age youth and supports the development and implementation of appropriate special education and transition curriculum and educational best practices.


    Collaborates across the agency on program management issues including human resources issues, school budgets, transportation, parent communication, community summer programs, community relations etc.; develops and implements a comprehensive training plan for the schools; serves as management liaison with bargaining unit including, but not limited to, involvement on bargaining teams and in contract negotiations, and grievance resolutions.

    Interacts with local school district administrators, county agency department heads, and community leaders.


    Remains current with all ODE and DODD rules, regulations and standards governing the operation of programs in all areas of responsibility.

    Keeps informed of the latest trends, developments, laws, regulations, and products in all areas of responsibility.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.


    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's Degree required

    Eight years experience in related field with extensive knowledge of children with disabilities required

    Three years of management experience, preferably in Education, Special Education, School Admin

    Thorough knowledge of curriculum development and school organization


    Additional Requirements (can be attained post-employment)

    Appropriate Educational Administrative License required

    Ability to travel between multiple worksites
