- Determines defendant eligibility for court appointed legal representation
- Screens and selects cases for prisoner's docket and notifies jail and attorneys of defendant's scheduled court date
- Answers questions regarding court cases and procedures for defendants and bondsmen
- Sets master dockets for revocation of probation hearings
- Job responsibilities include constant handling of confidential material such as prisoner docket information
- Schedules and monitors Court case calendar and master, daily and special dockets
- Answers questions regarding Court cases and procedures for defendants, attorneys, bondsmen and the general public
- Prepares documents for court proceedings such as court orders, mechanics of notice and memos
- Prepares memos and other correspondence for judge
- Determines defendant eligibility for court appointed representation and appoints attorneys
- Coordinates case transfer to other courts
- Maintains schedules, statistical data and records for judges and attorneys
- Performs related duties as required
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice or a closely related field and three (3)years court operations or administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good knowledge of court procedures and case flow management; knowledge of indigency requirements
- Skill in communicating effectively with hostile, abusive or irrational individuals; skill in analyzing legal information
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, judges, attorneys, outside organizations, the news media and the general public
- Must secure and maintain valid Texas Certification in Trial Court Management within two (2)years after employment
- Required to be on-call 24-hours a day
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the work week
- Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 10 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
