- Maintains caseload of adult supervised probation cases utilizing the County case management system, including monitoring probationers' compliance with court orders, ensuring timely payment of child support, assessing cases for possible status changes, making recommendations based on probationers compliance, and documenting case activity;
- Researches and locates probationers who fail to report in, counsels probationers on child support system, payment procedures, and reporting requirements, researches and reports on inactive probation cases, and conduct field/home visits;
- Conducts office and intake interviews which includes counseling probationers on child support system, payment procedures and reporting requirements;
- Assesses probationers needs and makes referrals to the proper community agencies;
- Advises staff on case management issues, assists supervisor in training and development of new staff and making recommendations for actions such as hiring;
- Coordinates case issues with probationers, attorneys, court staff, and Attorney General's office staff;
- May prepare and submit violation reports on non-compliant probationers to Attorney General's office;
- Coordinates execution of active warrants on probationers by contacting law enforcement officers to have probationers arrested;
- May organize office coverage, if needed
- Testifies in child support court on cases in officer's caseload when summoned;
- Assist in conducting orientation class for new probationers and may conduct presentations to Bexar County departments, schools, community agencies and civic organizations on the Child Support system and Child Support Probation program;
- Acts as supervisor in their absence;
- Assist Supervisor with unit operations as needed; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor and/or Civil District Courts Administration.
- Bachelor's degree in criminology, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or other related field conferred by a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board plus three years of social service experience. One year of experience must include full-time casework, counseling or community or group work in a social service, community, corrections, or juvenile agency. One year of graduate study in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or other related field may be substituted for the one year of casework experience.
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation.
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Must have a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance, and a personal vehicle or alternate available means of transportation
- Master's Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration, or other related field, plus at least (3) years of social service experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Have good knowledge of Texas Family Code, with emphasis on Title IV-D Child Support Enforcement, and Title V/Parent-Child Relationship and child support laws; good knowledge of the child support system; knowledge of Court protocol; knowledge of court procedures; and knowledge to interpret legal statutes. Must have knowledge of case management practices; knowledge of mediation and behavior modification techniques; knowledge of issues affecting troubled adults; knowledge of social services delivery network; and knowledge of adult correctional system.
- Have skill in dealing with hostile or violent individuals and individuals/families in crisis; and interpersonal skill to interact effectively with employees and the general public. Must have knowledge of computer, basic office equipment and case management system utilized by the department; and knowledge of word processing software and computer applications
- Have ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with employees and the general public; ability to effectively respond to questions; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, other County employees, other government agencies, outside organizations, probationers, and the general public; ability to manage time effectively, and ability to work closely with court officials on cases.
- Moderate judgment is required to determine appropriate information to release or communicate to individuals and to enforce probation conditions for probationers. Uses moderate discretion to achieve work goals. Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals. Conflicting or incomplete data is frequently encountered in decision-making. Decisions are made regarding policy interpretation, group work scheduling and individual work priorities.
