Who is in leadership?
Jocelyn Prince (she/her/hers)
is Owner and a Principal at ALJP Consulting from the South Side of Chicago who has worked with nonprofit and political organizations across the U.S.
She has previously served as Artistic Coordinator at Yale Repertory Theatre, Site Coordinator for Almira PreK-8 Academy at Cleveland Play House, Connectivity Director at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and Artistic Associate at The Public Theater, where she co-facilitated the Emerging Writers Group.
She is an Associate with Beehive Dramaturgy Studio and was a co-founding Artistic Director of The New Black Fest.She has worked as a production dramaturg at various theaters including Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Juilliard School of Drama, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, European Repertory Company, Congo Square Theatre Company, eta Creative Arts Foundation and Lifeline Theatre.
Jocelyn has directed new work for the Playwrights Gym at Dobama Theatre, the Cleveland Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Local 4181, The Dark Room at Cleveland Public Theater, the Go Green Festival at The Movement Theatre Company, the Around the Coyote Festival, and Snapshots 10-Minute Play Festival at 20% Theatre Company Chicago.
She was the assistant director for the world premiere of The Bluest Eye by Lydia Diamond at Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
Jocelyn has been a guest artist at the Seabury Quinn, Jr. Playwrights Festival and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Nationals. Her performance poetry has been featured by The Encyclopedia Show Chicago, The Encyclopedia Show DC, and La Ti Do.She has taught in the Leadership for Creative Enterprises graduate program and the undergraduate rhetoric, theater and performance studies departments at Northwestern University, and served on the theater management faculty at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University.
She has presented and spoken on panels at the Communities in Schools National Forum, the Department of Performance Arts at Georgetown University, the Theatre Communications Group National Conference, the Department of Theatre Arts at Howard University, the EMC Arts Continuing Innovation Convening, and the Department of Africana Studies; Rites and Reason at Brown University.
Jocelyn is the creator of Theater Folx of Color, an affinity Facebook group for BIPOC in the theater industry with 13K+ active members.
She has written for TimeOut Chicago, TimeOut New York, Howlround,The Chicago Reporter, Nonprofit Quarterly and the African American Review.Her marathon street performance protest "Honk for Justice Chicago" in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020, was featured in a variety of outlets including Chicago Tonight, The Chicago Reader, and The Washington Post.
Jocelyn recently co-authored a book chapter about the protest with Dr. Harvey Young for the forthcoming publication - Acts of Rebellion, Activism, and Solidarity in Contemporary Black Theatre and Performance.Jocelyn is a Democratic Party activist and has held field staff positions with Obama for America (2008), Hillary for America and Kamala Harris for the People Jocelyn holds a B.A.
in Journalism from Bradley University and a M.A. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University.She is a proud alum of the legendary Bradley University Speech Team. Zora is her joyful dog.
Kim Davis (she/her/hers)
is a Principal at ALJP Consulting.
She is an artist, educator, and researcher with more than 25 years of experience in arts and culture performance, education, and administration for nonprofit and municipal organizations.
Most recently, she served as Senior Director of Education at Old Town School of Folk Music, where she developed and implemented the Creative Dance Residency, producing and presenting artists and companies such as Nejla Yatkin, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, Valerie Alpert Dance Company, and The Cambrians.
She also has given lectures and presentations and facilitated discussions at a variety of conferences, municipal departments, and universities.She has experience curating programs for festivals, conferences, artist residencies, and workshop presentations and she served as an Art of Rehearsal mentor for six years at Chicago's famed Links Hall.
She participated in the New England for the Arts' National Dance Project Regional Dance Development Initiative's Presenter Showcase and she also served as a task force member of Chicago Dancemakers Forum's 2017 inaugural Elevate Dance Chicago festival.
Her background includes program design, workshop and curriculum development, individual mentorship and group facilitation, project management, strategic planning, and executive leadership.
She is passionate about using the arts as a gateway to communication and the dismantling of systemic racism and injustice in communities.
Davis is completing an EdD in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University and holds an MS from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, a BA from Columbia College of Missouri, and has completed training in caucus facilitation, and certificates in Ethical Leadership and DEI in the Workplace.
Her research investigates theattrition/retention
and success of Black womxn in leadership positions within the arts and culture sector in predominantly white institutions. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of Links Hall.
Your Areas of Accountability
Associates are responsible for the execution of tasks and deliverables for the project. They work in collaboration with the Project Manager to provide support and action steps for client organizations.
Associates are responsible for a variety of deliverables including the following:
Review of organizational materials
Stakeholder interviews with staff, board members, artists, and community members
In Person site visit(s) at various locations, nationwide
Written and oral organizational assessments
Candidate screenings
Thought partnership on process
Written and oral recommendations for organizational strategy
Facilitation of strategic planning sessions, search committee meetings, bias awareness workshops, and other gatherings
Other related deliverables, as needed
Who Are We Looking For?
This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in the nonprofit arts and culture sector, who is interested in working with nonprofit arts organizations as a consultant, nationwide.
The person will be passionate about equity and diversity, and reimagining a more inclusive and accessible arts and culture sector.
ALJP Consultants must have flexible schedules with some daytime, weekday availability.Associates will need to travel to various locations for site visits with clients in cities like NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago.
