General Description:
Manage a book of brokers and their business as assigned. Responsible for coordination of day-to-day customer service and supporting the broker-Emerson Reid relationship. Act as a liaison between the insurance carrier and broker. Assist with training brokers and perform rate/renewal analysis. The Broker Consultant is encouraged to visit the top brokers on a regular schedule as directed by management.


Responsibilities:


  • Work with VIP brokers determined by the value of business and level of difficulty. Includes frequent contact and meetings with brokers.
  • Resolve daytoday service issues for brokers and vendors. Assist with claims and billing problems.
  • Respond to carrier and/or broker specific questions. Ensure new business, renewals, and broker of record letters meet the requirements of the writing carrier.
  • Process plan changes submitted by Account Executives, Broker Consultants, and Brokers. Includes policy changes, endorsements, and other requests.
  • Provide followup communication and approvals on plan changes and open enrollment issues.
  • Identify crossselling opportunities for other lines of coverage.
  • Enter data into commission database.
  • Update client database on an ongoing basis. Create and maintain case files of critical client information based on implemented workflows.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure service and turnaround times meet Emerson Reid standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, vendors, and internal staff.
  • Stay current with insurance regulations, carrier plan options, underwriting rules and other value add programs offered by Emerson Reid.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • 1 year + experience working in a group health insurance setting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must hold Life & Health insurance license, or ability to obtain within three months from date of hire.
  • Familiarity with products, services, competitive offerings, market needs, industry trends, and claims procedures.
  • Basic understanding of alternate funding arrangements. Includes full and partially insured, minimum premium, and selfinsured.
  • Ability to creatively and proactively problemsolve.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Includes ability to maintain relationships with brokers and carriers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a busy, team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
