Tridents global operations produce finished wild Alaska seafood products in 6 countries and its sales teams serve customers in over 50 countries. Trident employs approximately 9,000 people worldwide each year and partners with over 5,400 independent fishermen and crewmembers. Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also includes cultured and wild species from a network of trusted sources worldwide.

    The Environmental Compliance Specialist II is responsible for the implementation and administration of environmental policies, programs, and trainings at Tridents seafood processing facilities in the United States. This position works in collaboration with key plant and corporate stakeholders, as well as with a team of 2-5 Environmental Compliance Specialists under the supervision of the Environmental Compliance Director/Manager. This position includes travel to remote areas of Alaska.

    • Ensures compliance with all state and federal environmental laws and regulations in addition to corporate environmental policies.
    • Tracks and interprets laws or regulations impacting the business and offers suggestions to functional managers seeking to ensure compliance.
    • Collects and analyzes environmental samples, interprets findings, and recommends and implements corrective action as needed.
    • Gathers input of alleged compliance violations and escalates to executive leadership.
    • Gathers information in support of environmental permit applications and regulatory reports required by the various regulatory programs.
    • Assists in periodic reviews or audits of environmental program data, trends, and processes. Identifies potential areas of non-compliance, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement. Reports findings to management and recommends corrective action as needed.
    • Assists with final review of reports and communications to regulators. Provides technical support in company negotiations with regulators.
    • Assists field staff and management to prevent releases of pollutants and environmental incidents by investigating, identifying causes, and developing preventative measures and practices.
    • Mitigates risk exposure by identifying sources of risk and developing needed programs, policies, and procedures. Avoids legal challenges by working collaboratively to understand the impact of current and proposed legislation.
    • Ensures internal and external stakeholder satisfaction by recommending best practices. Drives, implements, sustains, and develops quality process improvements that focus on operations and customer service.

    This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $80k to $100k.

    Trident Seafoods offers a comprehensive and quality benefits package. Full time employees may be eligible for discretionary/performance-based incentives, medical, dental and vision insurance plans, optional HRA/HSA, telemedicine, employee assistance and wellness programs, long-term disability, basic life and AD&D, and 401(k) with a company match, vacation, sick time, 10 paid holidays each year, and paid parental leave. For full-time employees, the initial vacation benefit starts at 10 days per year, adjusted commensurate with relevant experience, and 7 days of sick leave per year (9 in Seattle), accrued bi-weekly. Commuter and transit programs are also available.

    Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

    • A minimum of five years of related experience.
    • A bachelors degree in environmental science, or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
    • Possesses working knowledge of environmental regulations including but not limited to Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, and SPCC
    • Current training certifications or ability to obtain certifications as necessary for specific job tasks within 6 months of hire date, including but not limited to HAZWOPER, DOT HazMat, Spill Response, Storm Water, etc.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
    • Ability to travel to remote Alaska, up to 25%.

    Preferred education and experience

    • Strong collaboration, analytical, influential, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Must be results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the department as well as the overall organization
    • Ability to persuasively communicate with all levels of management and team members at various locations. Strong training, reporting, data analyzing, and presentation skills.

    Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
