    Job Description

Job DescriptionAbout the Organization - Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA stretches across three Bay Area counties north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge and includes iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco.

The Parks Conservancy engages at the intersection of national park sites, local communities, social justice, and climate resilience. Collaborating with partners, our staff are dedicated to enhancing public awareness and providing volunteer and educational opportunities in the parks. We are park builders, caretakers, ambassadors and educators, all working to connect people to parks in support of our vision Parks for All Forever. Join us.

About the Role – Director, Technology Strategy & Data Insights
We are seeking an innately curious leader to establish and lead our Strategic Insights & Data functions, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic direction by harnessing the potential of data across every facet of our non-profit supported by multiple revenue streams. This is a rare opportunity to make a significant impact, collaborating closely with each branch and departments org-wide to architect innovative solutions and drive operational excellence. If you have a passion for data-driven decision-making and a track record of success in analytics and strategic consulting, we want to hear from you

A key focus will be empowering the entire staff. The Director will guide the data & technology team to collaborate with Parks Conservancy staff, ensuring technology serves as a tool to facilitate everyone's work. This includes transforming how staff contribute to and use data to make informed decisions by increasing the adoption and usage of available technologies.

The Director will strike a balance between addressing immediate needs and strategically planning for long-term technological and data-driven projects. The Director of Organization Insights & Data Strategy supervises a team of 3 employees and reports to the COO.

    Your responsibilities will include:
    • Lead the Data & Technology department, providing mentorship and guidance to foster effective collaboration and professional growth.
    • Evaluate projects and initiatives from an organizational perspective, ensuring adherence to best practices in technology and data management/security.
    • Establish a reimagined Strategic Insights function at the Parks Conservancy, including team design, staffing, systems selection, implementation and integration, and cadence of streamlined reporting.
    • Working collaboratively with the Innovation and Impact team as an internal thought leader in defining the best tools to create sets of processes to compile and disseminate this information to internal and external stakeholders efficiently and understandably.
    • Build tools that effectively communicate and socialize actionable results and findings throughout the organization in a simple and intuitive narrative format.
    • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
    • Oversee the data and analytics software and systems to provide proactive analysis and support for fundraising as well as member, volunteer, and supporter engagement to steer the strategic direction of the organization based on data programs.
    • Manage third party technology contractors; we are currently partnered with Xantrion, Infobond, AT&T, Comcast along with several others.
    • Provide thought leadership on technology, data tracking, and cybersecurity to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
    • Oversee major technology initiatives, including the implementation of cloud-based tools, development of custom digital solutions, and management of hardware and software.
    • Ensure the successful onboarding and offboarding of employees in relation to technology systems while aligning and coordinating with HR.

    What You'll Need
    • At least 10 years of progressive experience in strategic intelligence, data management, and technology.
    • Analytics, statistics, and/or database knowledge and experience (using tools, applications, platforms, etc.)
    • Experience managing and leading teams responsible for data and technology.
    • The ability to assert influence in ensuring deadlines are met, and leadership stays on track to critical deliverables or communication timelines.
    • Skilled communicator capable of guiding change management as new technology and practices are adopted. Convey the impact of changes to external and internal, technical and non-technical audiences.
    • The ability to shift seamlessly between strategic, big-picture thinking and operational, nuts-and-bolts systems building.
    • An enthusiasm for efficiency and a focus on constantly looking for ways to improve, streamline, and simplify processes and reduce cost.

    Who You Are:
    • A Do-er. You are solutions-oriented, a problem-solver looking for the best solution(s) to whatever challenge you're confronted with. You don't wait for instruction. Instead, you proactively look for ways to offer support and be of use.
    • An Effective Collaborator. You've successfully worked across cultural lines on a diverse team and can operate effectively in complex situations. You can easily gain trust from team members and are known for supporting them to ensure they are set up for success. You're not afraid to ask questions.
    • Resourceful and Adaptable. You're at ease with ambiguity and rapid change. You possess a positive attitude and identify creative solutions to obstacles. You can juggle many essential responsibilities at once and are rigorous about prioritizing.
    • Committed to Diversity and Inclusion. You're always asking: "whose voice is not at the table?" You have experience working with diverse teams and successfully navigating cross-cultural communication in both local and global contexts, and you deeply value creating a workplace that is supportive of difference.
    • Impact-Driven. You are driven by the desire to contribute to making change in our society, believing that park access is social justice.

    Compensation and Location
The Parks Conservancy provides its employees with a competitive salary that is benchmarked with other non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. Benefits include a competitive suite of medical, dental, and vision plans, up to 3 weeks' paid vacation plus one week of personal days, plus holiday (11) and sick days (12).

This position is full-time, and you must already be based in, or be willing to relocate to, the Bay Area. This role is expected to be on-site at (Fort Mason) three days a week. In the beginning, this may require more time in the office; however, in-office time can be adjusted as needed with the COO's approval.

The hiring range for this position is an annual salary of $155,000-$165,000. The final salary within this range will be determined based on relevant experience.

    The Application Process
The Parks Conservancy has engaged Equitable Hiring Group to support this hiring process. To apply, please complete the short form to the right.

Individuals who apply by Thursday, May 30th, will be given priority; therefore, we encourage you to submit yours soon

When you apply, we kindly ask you to remove your schools from your resume. There is no need to reformat your resume and leave your degree as is; simplify it to "B.A. Economics," for example. Just remember to remove any undergraduate and graduate school name references where possible. This "bias-reduced" process is aimed at opening this opportunity to more candidates, reviewing applicants on performance assessments instead of resume proxies (e.g., where you went to school).

This evaluation process will follow practices shown to reduce bias in decision-making and may be different from other application processes you have experienced.

The overall evaluation process will look to follow this anticipated timeline:
    • Late May: Selected candidates asked to complete short answer questions.
    • Early June: Video interview with Parks Conservancy Staff.
    • Mid-June: Finalist candidates will be asked to complete a timed trial assignment.
    • Late June: Finalists will participate in a multi-team member in-person panel interview.
      • Candidate references will also be checked at this step.
    • Early July: Offer extended.
If you have any questions about the opportunity, please email

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Recruitment, placement, and promotions are conducted without regard to an individual's race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical handicap, veteran status or sexual orientation, or any other classification protected by Federal, State, and local laws & ordinances.
