Job Title: Resident Assistant

Reports To: Director of Housing and Residential Life

Location: Illinois Central College, East Peoria, Illinois

Compensation: $14.00 per hour and Housing Credit. Position not eligible for benefits

FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt

Company Information:

Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.

Summary:

The Resident Assistant (RAs) are live-in student staff committed to the personal and academic success of residents within the community. The RA position will run from May 15, 2024, through May 18, 2025.

Time and Compensation: The RA position is made up of multiple different facets, including Administrative and Facility Management duties during the workday, and Community Development, Programming and Duty responsibilities outside of the office. Because of the unique constraints of the position, RAs must receive prior approval for involvement in time commitments outside of academics, and additional employment. Total involvement in outside commitments and employment may not exceed 25 hours per week. Due to this time commitment, in addition to an hourly rate paid for time spent scheduled for desk hours, a housing credit equivalent to the monthly rate of a four-bedroom unit will be applied to the RA's account each month of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Development

• Identify your residents and know where they live within the first three weeks of the semester.
• Notify supervisor of roommate conflicts and assist with roommate mediation sessions/contracts.
• Be available to residents and maintain a high level of visibility in the community.
• Maintain a positive building community by encouraging responsibility, ownership & civility.
• Identify and assist residents with personal, academic, wellness, or other special issues. Respond and report behavior that is inappropriate / discriminatory / harassing in nature (racial, ethnic, religious, ability, gender, and/or sexual identity).

Safety and Security

• Interpret and enforce community and institution's regulations and policies.
• Learn and implement building-wide emergency response procedures.
• Discuss and clarify on an ongoing basis College and apartment rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to all residents.
• Complete and submit Incident Reports as well as duty logs following each duty shift.
• Observe residents who identify emotional, relationship, psychological, academic, or social problems. Intervene appropriately or report as needed.

Programming

• Implement intentional outreach efforts to become acquainted and build rapport with apartment residents via weekly check ins with apartments.
• Maintain a commitment to the balanced growth of the residents and the community by providing programs of an issue-oriented and educational nature. RAs are expected to plan and execute one educational program per semester, and two Intentional Community Builder (ICB) events per month.
• Work with ICC Student Activity Board to facilitate events with ICC Campus Housing.
• Encourage and involve residents to develop and implement programs.
• Complete and submit a Program Proposal and flyer for program by given deadline.
• Evaluate and complete Program Evaluation within 24 hours of program completion.

Facility Management

• Assist with room condition assessments prior to Move-In and after Move-Out each semester.
• Assist with quarterly facility inspections and follow-ups.
• Report maintenance concerns for the community.

Administrative

• Participate in training and administrative tasks which occur prior to classes beginning and after classes end.
• Perform administrative duties in a thorough, timely, and confidential manner, including, but not limited to incident reports, occupancy checks each semester, damage billing, surveys, and reporting of maintenance issues.
• Participate in RA selection, Move-in/Move-out, RA Training, any Open Houses, and other events or ICC Housing priorities as assigned.
• Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned, including weekly meetings with supervisor and weekly staff meetings.

Duty

• Participate in an on-call duty rotation after business hours and on weekends (requires walking through all buildings and holding/responding to a duty cell phone overnight).
• RA staff on duty will be required to complete two rounds a night, a social round to distribute fliers and maintain contact with residents, and a security round that takes place no later than 10pm on weeknights and 11pm on weekends.
• Staff coverage/duty will be required during academic calendar break periods (holidays and extended time).

Other

• Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• High school diploma.
• Current student at Illinois Central College.
• Maintain full-time enrollment and "good standing" with Illinois Central College.
• Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
• Possess strong customer service skills.
• Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
