Position Summary

The Analytical Engineer will utilize hand calculations, computer aided engineering (CAE) software packages, and internally developed calculation tools to analyze medium speed diesel engine systems, components, and associated hardware to solve problems related to hardware design, failure investigations, concept evaluations, etc.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Write clear and concise reports documenting analyses and tests from objective, references, and methodology through results and conclusions. Reports may be subject to review and approval by external customers and third parties.
Perform analyses
Simplified hand calculations for concept evaluations, design guidance, etc.
MIL-DTL-901 Shock and MIL-STD-167 Vibration qualification and extension
Torsional vibration (including forced response) of engine drivetrains to determine critical speeds and meet customer requirements
Engine troubleshooting using vibration analysis and other methods
Failure analysis, root cause analysis, and general problem solving using structured methods
Static and dynamic FEA for stress, strain, etc
Other engineering analyses as required
Write test procedures, participate in test fixture design, and perform or witness testing to validate analysis results.
Help coordinate analysis projects executed outside of FMD. Evaluate results for validity.
Build and maintain centrally located analysis reports and models (from both internal and external sources).
Standardize and coordinate application of best-practice analysis guidelines
Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements

BSME with 3 years of experience in an engineering analysis role or MSME graduate. Related engineering fields will be considered. Emphasis in dynamics and vibration strongly desired.
Understanding of complex mechanical engineering systems and components, experience with engine design or development is desired
Creative thinking, highly motivated, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is a must
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills
Experience working with 3D modeling design tools (SolidWorks preferred)
Stress analysis experience using hand calculations and FEA (ANSYS preferred)
MathCAD, MATLAB, and/or Maple experience is beneficial
Experience in solving problems in solid mechanics, dynamics, and/or thermal-fluids systems

This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data.

Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship.

Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate

Travel: 5%
