    Job Summary


    The Associate Director of Research and Strategy in the Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA) is responsible for research and strategic advancement activities.

    Research duties include leading research activities in collaboration with industry partners, students, and research faculty.

    These activities include designing research methods, supervising industry-academic teams, supervising and mentoring research assistants, leading technical presentations, and reporting results.

    The strategic development elements of this position include growing and sustaining the CRSA membership by engaging with existing members, creating research products, building a sense of community among the membership, strengthening professional networks, and sharing CSRA work with broad professional communities.

    This position coordinates directly with the academic team leadership, Operations Manager, and the Executive Director.

    The CSRA is a community of industry leaders and academic experts who collaborate to create and share new safety knowledge.

    The vision of the CSRA is to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities in the construction industry through transformative research and defendable science.

    The CSRA work involves industry-academic research teams with 20-30 members who meet virtually monthly and in-person quarterly. Research results are presented at an annual Safety Summit and are disseminated through diverse publication outlets. Founded in 2019, the CSRA has grown to over 100 companies and a dozen academic partners.
    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Research Activities...

    Research Team Leadership:
    Designs research methods for planned CSRA projects
    Coordinates research team activities
    Communicates research methods and data collection to industry team members.
    Leads collaborative data collection and analysis
    Summarizes research results for the CSRA community and external industry and academic stakeholders
    Supports research projects lead by other CSRA staff, including meeting attendance, data analysis, and reporting


    Student Supervision and Mentorship:
    Assists with the supervision and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate research assistants
    Assists with mentoring students through writing, submitting, and revising peer-reviewed manuscripts.
    Coordinates with other student advisors to create equitable and achievable student goals


    Technical Writing and Presentation:
    Works with graduate students and other CSRA staff to publish peer-reviewed journal and conference papers
    Writes, reviews, and edits industry-oriented papers, technical reports, and research updates

    Strategic Development Activities...

    Internal Member Relations:
    Organizes monthly virtual community of practice meetings by working with an advisory team to select topics, coordinating speakers, introducing and moderate sessions, recording and archiving session content, and communicating with attendees
    Leads the development and delivery of regular strategic communications to the CSRA community about research and administrative progress
    Leads the analysis and reporting of the CSRA Annual Impact Survey
    Leads networking and events that promote a positive culture within the CSRA community
    Assists with internal member relations in coordination with the CSRA Operations Manager


    External Industry Liaison:
    Makes formal presentations about the CSRA and its research in industry venues
    Leads CSRA outreach activities to establish meaningful relationships with leading industry groups such as CISI, NCSE, ASSP, and others
    Assists with the CSRA social media presence by creating content and responding to queries and questions as they arise in coordination with the Operations Manager
    Creates new opportunities for CSRA advancement such as community efforts, intervention testing initiatives, and new partnerships

    What We Can Offer

    The salary range associated with this position is $115,000 to $120,000. Relocation assistance may be available in accordance with College and Campus policy.

    What We Require

    PhD or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field
    Demonstrated experience presenting relevant materials to large audiences
    5 or more years of research and/or consulting experience
    Experience with safety research that involves direct collaboration between industry professionals and academic researchers
    What You Will Need

    Excellent organizational skills
    Excellent written and oral communication skills
    Desire and ability to improve the aforementioned skills
