    Position Summary

    The Lead Cook is a key role in the Food Services department, responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our kitchen. This position involves the preparation of preplanned meals using Serve Safe techniques, maintaining cleanliness in all food preparation, cooking, and serving areas, and managing inventory. The Lead Cook will provide excellent customer service to all residents, maintain necessary records, and adhere to all agency, contractual, and legal requirements. This role requires strict adherence to boundary and confidentiality rules. The Lead Cook must be able to work independently and perform all kitchen duties as required.

    Essential Job functions

    • Prepare preplanned meals using serve safe techniques
    • Wash dishes and clean all food prep, cooking, and serving areas.
    • Receive and inventory all deliveries, sort and put away as needed.
    • Provide excellent customer service to all residents.
    • Keep all records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with

    agency, contractual, and legal requirements.

    • Follow all boundary and confidentiality rules.
    • Articulate and promote high ethical and professional standards in all YWCA programs, activities, services and with all agency publics.
    • Ability to work alone and perform all kitchen duties as required.
    • Ability to work assigned hours on a regular basis.

    Ideal candidates will have the following:

    2. General knowledge of direct victim services, violence against women and sexual violence issues; gender and race equity, from a feminist perspective.
    3. Understanding of equity, anti-oppression and trauma-informed philosophies.

    Qualifications

    • 1+ years or related institutional cooking experience is preferred.
    • A food handlers permit is required
    • English is required. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
    • Assisting in menu planning and use of donations.
    • An understanding of, and agreement with, YWCA Utah's mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and commitment to anti-oppression work and social justice.
    • Understanding and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and anti-racism.
    • The ability to work scheduled hours regularly, weekend and evening .
    • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established timeframe.
    • Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.
    • Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
    • Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.
    • If driving on business, a valid Utah driver's license, access to an automobile, and valid auto insurance required.

    Physical/Sensory Demands

    Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable kitchen environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand for long periods of time; Assist in putting away deliveries, organize and clean.
