    Overview Located just southwest of the City of Houston, Fort Bend has a long history, which began when a small log fort was built on the banks of the Brazos River to help protect the settlers moving onto Stephen F.

    Austin's original Mexican land grants.

    JOB SUMMARY:
    Responsible for all public messaging including external communications and inquiries.

    Works closely with the Commissioner and the Chief of Staff to perform duties related to the strategic communications, media relations, graphic design, video production, and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to make county government accessible to Precinct 4 residents and partners.

    Responsibilities

    Direct the communications efforts of the Commissioner's Office to advance policy agenda and community engagement.

    Direct media relations, including writing press releases, pitching stories to media, responding to media inquiries, coordinating press events, and strengthening working relationships.

    Develop and implement a continuous messaging calendar including usage of mainstream and digital communication mediums (social media, newsletter platforms, print media, broadcast media):
    Email marketing campaigns
    Mass text campaigns
    Website management and content development
    Press releases, quote creation, and press inquiries
    Photo and video production
    Graphic design

    Create and edit high-quality social media and other digital content through text, photos, and videos to engage residents online and expand access to information about County services, initiatives, and events across the Commissioner's social media platforms.

    Manage social media, podcasts, blogs, social media, and other communications tools to advance policy agenda and community engagement, including timely responses to comments and direct messages.

    Develop detailed media activity reports to support continuous improvement in content reach.
    Create comprehensive communication and marketing plan for major announcements and events.
    Represent the Commissioner at numerous local, regional, and state events and functions.
    Review and respond to citizen complaints and other public inquiries submitted to the Commissioner.
    Represent Fort Bend County in a wide variety of community relations endeavors.

    Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

    This position will require meeting strict deadlines and attending meetings across the region outside normal business hours.
    Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

    Two years of college and 10 years of directly related experience may substitute for the degree requirement, in addition to the years of experience necessary to meet the experience requirement.

    Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility in corporate or political communications, journalism, branding, or marketing-related positions.

    A graduate degree will be accepted for two (2) years of experience.
    Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact and deal effectively with employees, elected officials, department heads and the public.
    Must possess high level interpersonal skills, emphasizing empathetic interaction, persuasiveness, diplomacy and problem solving skills.
    Ability to use discretion and intelligible thought process in making responsible decisions without supervision.
    Strong organizational and computer skills.
    Public speaking and presentation skills; participating in discussions at conferences and/or meetings is essential. Must be capable of building consensus and leading others by example.
    Strong analytical skills for developing messaging on issues an evaluating strategic communications and media strategies.

    Ability to translate complex concepts into plain oral or written language, and a distinctly excellent ability to write, edit, and organize communications documents and other information very clearly.

    Must demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and initiative and be highly organized and with the ability to achieve systematic delivery under tight deadlines.

    Proactive, innovative, and creative in developing solutions and completing assignments.

    Ability to develop successful working relationships with governments at every level throughout Fort Bend County, Texas, and the United States.

    Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Final Cut, and other related creative platforms. Proficiency in AP writing style and an understanding of current terminologies. Awareness of national/state/local news, trends, and county-related initiatives.
