POSITION TITLE:

  • EB Specialist, Part-Time Middle School JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Purpose:

This staff member will be responsible for implementing and monitoring state and federal Emergent Bilingual compliance requirements and managing and process required LPAC documentation.

Work collaboratively with campus leadership to ensure an aligned and articulated Bilingual/ESL instructional program that results in the improvement of student academic achievement and linguistic development for Emergent Bilingual students.

- RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Specialist:


  • Serve as a professional resource for campus staff members on Emergent Bilingual compliance processes and requirements.
  • Support the fidelity of implementation of the district curriculum and Dual Language and ESL program model.
  • Supports teacher's sheltered instruction development by coteaching, modeling, and observing and providing feedback.
  • Develops teachers' capacity to meet the needs of the Emergent Bilingual student population by providing professional learning opportunities and coaching teachers in planning and delivering exemplary sheltered instruction
  • Provide sheltered instruction professional learning for certified and noncertified teachers teaching EB (Emergent Bilingual) students that is aligned to district Accelerated Language Program (ALP) department initiatives.

Compliance Responsibilities:


  • Monitor and implement state and federal compliance requirements for EB in program placement, student academic and linguistic monitoring, and testing at the campus level.
  • Manage all required documentation, testing, identification, reclassification, and monitoring of Emergent Bilingual students required by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) process.
  • Facilitate PLCs to analyze EB student assessment data to monitor progress and support planning for Tier 1 and 2 instructions to address students' specific academic, cognitive, linguistic, and affective needs.
  • Analyze EB student data in collaboration with campus administrators and teachers and provide ongoing guidance in the selection, consistent and effective implementation of linguistic accommodations for individual students to increase academic and language growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the building principal, facilitators, and ALP Director in the selection and ordering of appropriate supplemental resources that support Second Language Acquisition that is aligned to the district curriculum and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).

  • Model attitudes, behaviors, and actions that are aligned to the district and campus vision.
  • Attends and actively participates in scheduled district Emergent Bilingual coach meetings and/or trainings and shares the learning with campus.
  • Develops positive working relationships with district and campus staff, honoring confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Develops capacity of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to function effectively to improve student learning.
  • Collaborates regularly with campus leadership

Catalyst for Continuous Learning and Growth:

  • Influences change for improvement by introducing new ideas, making observations, questioning current practices, and exploring alternatives.
  • Conducts nonevaluative observations and walkthroughs that provide teachers with constructive feedback.
  • Exhibits a growth mindset by modeling continuous learning to stay current in the best practices of teaching and to be a thoughtleader on the campus.

  • Organize parent, family, and community EB specific events. (Title III)
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
  • EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Experience:


  • Minimum of 35 years of successful classroom experience
  • Leadership experience (such as campus lead teacher, team leader, department chair, curriculum writer, etc.)
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:


  • ESL Certification (ESL campuses) Bilingual Certification (Bilingual campuses)
  • Master's degree preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:


  • Have content specialty in second language acquisition and sheltered instruction including classroom experience in implementing ESL program models
  • Ability to work with and lead adult learners
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Effective interpersonal skills (such as building rapport, actively listening, and giving/receiving feedback)
  • Indepth knowledge of instructional practices, effective classroom management, and student engagement
  • Experience with developing and delivering professional learning
  • Ability to disaggregate data, identify core issues, and assist with implementation
  • Strong organizational skills
