    Field Services Technician Position at GLWA

    Summary
    The Field Services Technician is responsible for performing installations, service start-ups, and investigative tests. Additionally, they troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water mains, hydrants, catch basins, and sewerage systems across various locations. The role involves repairing and maintaining tools and equipment associated with these installations. The technician is also involved in tasks such as cleaning, repairing, testing, and adjusting a variety of complex meters for residential and industrial services. Identifying and solving problems as they arise and referring complex issues to other team members when necessary are crucial aspects of this role.


    Job Responsibilities
    • Repair broken water mains and hydrants throughout the service area
    • Assist Box crews in providing repairs
    • Perform turn-on and turn-off services for installation, repair, or shutoff of various equipment and devices
    • Track and perform routine gate maintenance
    • Initiate and complete investigations
    • Actively participate in Two-Man Dig Crew (three-yard dump, mini-excavator)
    • Perform testing and calibration of meters
    • Perform Meter Interface Units (MIU) installations, wiring, programming, and troubleshooting
    • Operate field laptops for work orders
    Required Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and practices used in repairing heavy machinery and equipment
    • One (1) year of experience in repairing and assembling water meters and parts preferred
    • Michigan S4 license within three (3) years
    • Meet requirements to advance to Field Services Technician Level 2 within four (4) years
    Physical Requirements

    The role involves climbing ladders, scaffolding, working in confined spaces, lifting heavy objects, standing or walking for long periods, hearing alarms, detecting equipment sounds, and visually inspecting processes. Additionally, wearing respiratory protection and other safety equipment is mandatory.

    Environmental Requirements

    Work may involve hazardous conditions, including exposure to chemicals and confined spaces. It might also require working near open water and under slippery conditions.

    Other Requirements
    • Valid Commercial Driver's License with 'A' Endorsement
    • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing
