    Who We Are


    The First Responder Consortium (FRC) in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University is seeking a highly motivated research assistant, with a bachelor's degree in psychology or related field, to start in-person in June 2024.

    The First Responder Consortium (FRC), led by Drs.

    Anka Vujanovic and Elizabeth Anderson-Fletcher of the University of Houston, is a network of academic researchers, clinicians, first responder agencies, and non-profit organizations dedicated to furthering state-of-the-art research, clinical best practices, and program development to improve the mental health and well-being of firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, and emergency dispatchers.

    We bring academic researchers, clinicians, and agency leaders together to inform meaningful research that translates into practice to impact first responders' lives.


    Our work emphasizes four pillars of service:
    (1) outreach and collaboration, (2) research, (3) clinical training and education, and (4) policy.

    What We Want


    The Research Assistant will assist the project coordinator (and other study team members) with data collection and management for several studies related to mental health in first responders (e.g., firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, emergency dispatchers) with a focus on traumatic stress, substance use, and suicide.

    Under the supervision of Dr.

    Anka Vujanovic and the project coordinator, the research assistant will conduct participant screening interviews, assist with participant recruitment, develop, and implement data management processes for ongoing research projects, participate in research meetings, assist with participant focus groups as applicable, and complete other research-related duties.

    What You Need to Know

    Salary:
    Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience


    Required Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's in psychology or related field

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Proficiency with word/data processing software
    • Proficiency in English; verbal and written
    • Ability to carry and hang physical paper flyers for participant recruitment at Texas A&M University and surrounding community locations

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Previous research experience in trauma, substance use, suicide and/or first responder mental health or a related field is preferred
    • Skills in data collection and management are preferred

    Responsibilities:

    • Participant Recruitment & Screening: Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating in the recruitment of research participants. Conducts screening interviews for research participants.
    • Data Organization & Management: Responsible for developing and implementing processes to assist the lab with management of data for all ongoing studies. Evaluates and summarizes results. Enters and maintains detailed data logs. Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
    • Research Meetings: Attends lab research meetings and performs other duties as assigned by management.
