    Senior Proposal Development Specialist - Joint Office of Research Administration - Georgetown University Medical Center

    Job Overview


    The Senior Proposal Development Specialist provides preaward support to faculty and postdoctoral fellows in all aspects of proposal development, including budget development, form completion and submission.

    As a major responsibility, they prepare proposal submissions for federal and non-federal funding mechanisms, including complex applications such as program projects and training grants.


    Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • For preaward activities, identify, organize, facilitate, and submit the development of new, resubmission and competitive renewal research proposals for all grants and collaborative opportunities with other institutions
    • Provide leadership, training and oversight of the Proposal Specialist within their cluster
    • Support the researchers of assigned Clusters, each of which includes several departments within the Main Campus and the Medical Center
    Work Interactions


    Reporting directly to the Cluster Research Administrator, the Senior Proposal Development Specialist works closely with other staff members in their cluster - across the proposal specialist roles within JORA and other collaborating offices - to ensure that proposals are complete, accurate and in compliance with sponsor and institutional regulations, policies and guidelines.

    Requirements and Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree - preference for Master's degree
    • 5 to 7 years of experience in academic research administration
    • Expertise in electronic grants submissions through and other electronic portals
    • Knowledge of NIH funding mechanisms, including R01, P01, P30, T32 and foundation proposals
    • Budgeting experience in Excel
    • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate ongoing changes to internal and external policies
    • Capacity for managing an extremely high volume of proposals and juggling multiple deadlines at once
    • Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure
    • Excellent skills in organization and in verbal and written communication
    • Ability to function in a fast-paced academic setting
    • Proficiency with software products, including Excel, Adobe Professional and DocuSign
    • Experience in academic research administration and familiarity with post-award financial management
    • Certified Research Administration (CRA) or Certified PreAward Research Administration (CPRA)

    Salary Range

    The expected pay range for this position is $54,616 - $100,493 per year.


    Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.

    The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
