    Director of Development, Engagement & Outreach

    The ASU Foundation (ASUF) fosters partnerships between ASU and like-minded individuals, corporations and foundations who believe in ASU's mission and provide resources for ASU to manifest its charter into meaningful impact.

    The Director of Development for Engagement and Outreach Development is a proven and forward-looking fundraising professional who understands how to generate philanthropic support for university wide programs and priorities from a variety of diverse constituents, including parents, families, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community members. The director will manage and implement all philanthropic aspects of President's Club (PC), Women and Philanthropy (WP), Mirabella, Charter Fund, ASU Library, ASU Family, Faculty & Staff, Parent and Family Philanthropy, other university wide funding priorities and special projects identified by ASUF leadership. The director will lead the strategic efforts to permanently raise the long-term fundraising success of these programs and to and align these efforts with the upcoming Changing Futures campaign.

    The Director will work in collaboration with the ASU Foundation, ASU Enterprise Partners, ASU Family, ASU Educational Outreach and Student Services, ASU Library, and other ASU units and programs. The director will serve as a member of the Engagement and Outreach leadership team. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Engagement and Outreach.

    What you'll do:
    • Develop, coordinate, and execute comprehensive fundraising programs for the purpose of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts from parents, families, alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members
    • Responsible for overall fundraising metrics related to, PC, WP, Mirabella, Charter Fund, ASU Library, ASU Family, and other fundraising priorities as assigned - metrics include overall donor count, identification of new prospects, growth in cumulative giving, donor retention, major gift proposals submitted, receipts, and new gifts and commitments
    • Develop, execute, and mange comprehensive university wide development programs for Faculty & Staff and Parent and Family giving to increase overall philanthropic commitments from these segment of the university community
    • Collaborate with Donor Engagement on PC and WP fundraising strategies for the respective groups; attend group events to further donor relationships; support Engagement Programs and Event Staff as needed at group events; provide input for annual group strategy planning to support fundraising goals
    • Attend PC, WP and other relevant events, which may include evening or weekend activities
    • Collaborate with Annual Giving on sustaining gift fundraising strategies for all programs in the portfolio
    • Collaborate with ASU Library staff on a comprehensive giving program to support the fundraising priorities of the library
    • Collaborate with academic unit-based development officers to develop and implement sustaining and major gift fundraising strategies for PC and WP supporters who have expressed interest in specific academic areas
    • Proactively manage a portfolio of major gift ($25,000+) prospects with a personal fundraising goal of at least $1M and executing strategies leading to solicitation and investment that leverage the donor's interests and connect them to ASU's opportunities
    • Collaborate with Mirabella staff, University Realty, and Mirabella Charitable Advisory Committee on advancing philanthropy within the resident community of Mirabella at ASU
    • Recruit, hire, and manage a team of development professionals to support the overall goals and priorities of Engagement and Outreach Development and to oversee team member's progress toward individual metrics
    • Ensure appropriate recognition/stewardship of donors in portfolio
    • Work in a fast-paced, results oriented environment with complex and evolving relationships and priorities
    • Ensures compliance with prospect management guidelines for tracking and maintenance of contact and progress reporting
    • Manages budget, related to area(s) of assignment, ensuring a maximum return on university investments while controlling expenses
    What you'll need:
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles
    • Complex problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of database management
    • Ability to successfully lead, coach and guide a team to achieve desired result
    • Ability to inquire about and understand organizational interests and needs, and determine how to persuade or market to that organization with compelling benefits
    • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others
    • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment
    • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community
    • Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, program planning, fund solicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools
    • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information
    • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds
    • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems
    • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required
    Relevant qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Five (5) to seven (7) years of years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience.
    • Documented success in personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that use a relationship-building and moves management approach leading to successful gift closure
    • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources
    Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Advanced degree
    • Five (5) to seven (7) years of years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience in higher education or college athletics for applicable roles
    • Experience working in Salesforce and Workday
