General Summary:

This position requires hands-on use of mechanical, chemical, and ion beam deprocessing of microelectronics. Advanced sample preparation and microscopy techniques are used to investigate manufacturing materials of packaging and semiconductor technology in emerging technologies. Strong communication skills are necessary for translating complex information into simplified terms, especially with documentation and information sharing sessions. Identifying trends and commonalities between related technology systems will be helpful for building a dataset on changing and evolving fabrication methods.

Two years of experience working within a physical/chemical laboratory environment. Hands-on experience with mechanical & chemical sample prep of microelectronics and dual beam sample analysis, including EDS; STEM/TEM; optical measurements.

Additional useful skills: Microscopy; X-Ray imaging; TEM lamella prep; Wet Chemistry; Photography; Additive Manufacturing; Laser ablation; Reactive Ion Etching; Knights-Avalon; Knights-SysNav; discipline with documentation and report writing. Experience and knowledge of semiconductor design and failure analysis techniques. Creativity with developing sample prep techniques on unique package formats welcomed.

Preferred Requirements

Five to ten years of experience working within a physical/chemical laboratory environment. Hands-on experience with Gallium, Plasma & other beam tools for complex device analysis. Applied use of scientific method and detailed lab-book documentation for design of experiments

BS/MS Degree in Material Science/Engineering; AS and/or Certificate in Electron Microscopy

Additional skills: Knights-Avalon; Knights-SysNav; 5S methods; disciplined with documentation

Core responsibilities of this role include:

• Implement techniques for deconstructive analysis of microelectronics devices of varying form factors ranging from package, Silicon, and transistor levels.
• Partner with key personnel to provide and receive guidance while functioning with limited supervision.
• Collaborate with others to plan scope of work and optimize quality of deliverables.
• Efficiently balance and prioritize activities & equipment use to minimize impact between projects.
• Frequent use of communication skills (verbal, email, IM, text) to convey information relative to success of the business and department charter.
• Translate complex information and simplify for others who may have limited knowledge of subject matter.
• Collaborate & partner with others and welcome interaction so the goals can be achieved.
• Complete various tasks using proven strategies. Maximize volume and productivity for the team.
• Foster innovations and unorthodox methods to rapidly develop and create necessary solutions.
• Commit to multiple projects at all levels and visibility.
• Follow health & chemical safety guidelines alongside ESD protocols when handling microelectronics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs inspection and analysis of various technologies using optical and electron microscopy tool sets.
• Applies knowledge of sample prep techniques and operate instruments to enable effective data capture of limited-edition samples
• Collaborate and correspond to internal and external clients regarding project tasks and activity
• Contribute to writing papers and publications documenting techniques and approaches when applicable
• Document completed tasks and results using web-based database tracking systems

Physical Requirements:

• May travel between offices, buildings, and campuses up to 1⁄2 mile when necessary.
• Performs required tasks at various postures (e.g., standing or sitting).
• Practice personal protective equipment (PPE) use to ensure employee safety of self and others.
• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day; and taking ergonomic breaks at optimal periods.
• Strong communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in-person and remotely.

Pay range:

$88, $132,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
