- Work with the Senior Manager, Project Management and other Talen Energy employees assigned to the CCR projects as part of the Environmental Liabilities Management Team. Assist in coordinating workloads, assignments, and deliverables.
- Coordinate site work in conjunction with technical project support from Talen Energy Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Plant Operations personnel.
- Provide coordination between Talen Energy (Corporate Environmental teams and onsite Plant Operations personnel) and consultants and contractors who perform work on CCR projects. As the primary point of contact for the environmental contractors and consultants, ensure that project work scopes are vetted, and site activities are coordinated with the Plant Manager to mitigate and/or prevent impact to operations.
- Self-perform various field activities (i.e., sample collection and shipping, piezometer level monitoring, equipment maintenance, etc.).
- Complete project documentation and data entry of site activities.
- Support the planning, implementation, and tracking of CCR projects in accordance with USEPA, PADEP, and Consent Decree requirements working with Environmental SMEs.
- Communicate daily with site contractors and monitor project work to identify potential factors that will impact project progress, budget, schedule, and site safety. Coordinate with the Project Manager and corporate SMEs to implement work plan modifications as needed to troubleshoot problems.
- Oversee the installation, operation and maintenance of onsite groundwater treatment systems including compliance sampling and reporting. Supervise contractors involved with treatment system operations, repair, system compliance sampling, and groundwater monitoring well development and sampling.
- Review Project Work Scopes with contractors prior to initiating work. Contribute to the development of Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to be distributed to qualified vendors for bidding purposes. Participate in the bid evaluation and contractor selection process including the issuance of project Purchase Orders.
- Track the scope, schedule, and budget for each project and assist the Senior Manager, Project Management in producing a monthly progress report.
- Assure that QA/QC site work and sampling activities is completed and that all contractor documentation and is submitted and reviewed.
- Work with Talen Energy corporate financial representatives as needed to prepare and maintain detailed budget tracking for projects including monthly accruals.
- Conduct site safety training for contractors, consultants, and employees and provide oversight and enforcement of site safety requirements.
- Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Engineering (Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil), Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Extensive industry experience will be considered in lieu of a technical degree.
- Motivated self-starter who will take ownership of project responsibilities.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience with large environmental removal or remediation projects.
- Experience with the use of earth-moving equipment, processing equipment, and top-loading of tracks with material for over road transport.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Ability to use Microsoft Project or similar tracking program is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License.

Description
Talen Energy is seeking an Assistant Project Manager with experience implementing large complex removal and remediation projects. Specific experience with Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) management, removal, transport, and remediation is preferred. Other industry large project removal and remediation experience will be considered. The Assistant Project Manager will work under the direction of the onsite Project Manager and will supervise site contractors tasked specifically with managing CCRs and CCR units, or related groundwater or wastewaters, including with the removal of CCR material to allow for it to be processed and then transported offsite for beneficial reuse. The base work location for the successful candidate will be the Talen Energy - Montour Steam Generation Power Plant located in Washingtonville, Pennsylvania.
Primary Responsibilities:
Candidates must possess strong execution and problem-solving skills, and the technical ability and expertise to competently execute and supervise large CCR remediation projects. The ability to supervise multiple contractors and consultants in both onsite and remote roles is key to the success of this position. The Talen Energy CCR projects include critical regulatory, operational, and financial timelines that must be managed.
Basic Qualifications:
Talen owns and operates approximately 12.4 GW of power infrastructure in the United States. We produce and sell electricity, capacity, and ancillary services into wholesale power markets in the United States primarily in PJM, ERCOT and WECC, with our generation fleet principally located in the Mid-Atlantic, Texas and Montana. While the majority of our power is already generated at zero-carbon nuclear and lower-carbon gas-fired facilities, we are reducing the carbon profile of our wholly owned coal fleet through conversions to lower-carbon fuels and announced deactivations. In addition, we are developing a hyperscale data center campus adjacent to our Susquehanna nuclear plant that will utilize the carbon-free energy that Susquehanna generates.
