Spiritual Physics Round 2
It is next time.
I’ve made my way through five of 11 chapters of The God Theory.
The journey, so far, was well worth it.
The chapter titles are the perfect way to present the arc of the author’s view:
1. Personal Journey
2. Asking Fundamental Questions
3. Explaining Creation
4. Reductionism and a Spiritual Worldview
5. Explaining Consciousness
And yet to come…
6. The Zero-Point Field
7. Into the Void
8. Following the Light
9. God and the Theory of Everything
10. An Infinite Number of Universes
11. A Purposeful Universe
I am not going to spoil this book for the inquiring minds that may want to come to their own conclusions. So, take it out at your library or borrow it from a friend or buy it. Do get your hands on it. Me thinks I’ll add my comments.
My two cents and change.
I read non-fiction books with a highlighter in hand. It helps me to go back and look at what I thought was important during the course of reading and compare that to my overall takeaway. There is never a one-to-one ratio but therein lies the learning.
Here are my highlights and my thoughts chapter by chapter so far. I’ll save my summary for when I’ve finished.
Personal Journey
- Highlight: “Throughout the long journey and despite a successful career in mainstream science that spans three decades, I never stopped asking fundamental questions”
- Observation: Like many of us he struggles to reconcile spirituality and science as well as the monstrously inhumane actions of men against mankind taken in allegiance to religions.
Asking Fundamental Questions
- Highlight: “…manifestations of this infinite consciousness in this particular physical universe are none other than all of us and all the things we perceive around us. The intelligence experiences itself through us because we are one with it.”
- Takeaway: Spirituality is at odds with religion and science. The God Theory may just be walking the edge of Occam’s razor.
Explaining Creation
- Highlight: “…the process of creation is the exact opposite of making something out of nothing. It is, on the contrary, a filtering process that makes something out of everything.”
- Reflection: God does know everything in your mind because you are the nugget that is that god head.
Reductionism and a Spiritual Worldview
- Highlight: “Under the God Theory, the universe is not the wind-it-up-and-let-it-run, prefabricated creation that Newton envisaged, but rather a dynamic experiment in which all sorts of amazing things are dynamically generated by rules that result in hospitable environments in which an astounding diversity of life forms can evolve.”
- Comment: This is the first well-argued view I’ve seen that denies the insane extent mechanistic universe adherents go to in order to deny the possibility of something outside that has impact.
Explaining Consciousness
- Highlight: “Mystics assume that Human beings are immortal spiritual forms that evolve through temporary bodies.”
- Question: If Karma is correct, how come population keeps increasing?
- Highlight: “If consciousness underlies the universe, and your own consciousness is capable of seeing onto or communication with other levels of consciousness then what people, especially mystic, have seen and experienced does constitute real data.”
- Thought: So each of us is the playground of the infinite universe
I’m sorely tempted to forge ahead and delve into the Zero-Point Field. I don’t think it is about temperature. More than likely it is some abstruse idea from Physics. We shall see.
I’ll be back.

Harvey, You are so right! The views espoused in this book frequently flip things on their heads. For instance: What if this is a subtractive universe where all that our senses tell us are a matter of different filters applied to the light? Get your hands on the book Harvey. You're the kind of guy that will enjoy it.

Renoy, Now I understand your business and the facility with which you approach it. In a word it is empathy. I just finished chapter 2 of a client's new book on Leadership wherein he discusses empathy and how to teach it to your self and others. It won't be out until December 1 but I will recommend it on BeBee as soon as the preorder release is signed.

Pascal. I urge you to read it. A man as thoughtful as you with your wide ranging look at the way we approach the world might find it fascinating.

Mohammed, the conjecture in the book is that all of this comes from the light and that the Bible's words about light were simply a statement of fact. I am at best a poor interpreter of the author's idea.
