Perhaps the biggest disinformation problem is these platforms themselves. It's quite common knowledge these days that the vast majority of their “users” are fake accounts manned by bots (the tech has been around for several years now though lately they have become more sophisticated). After all, they are ad companies so they need to make money, and as most independent social media platforms have shown, it's really hard to get enough real users to interact with the platform. In conclusion, if you are still participating in FB, LI, and Twitter, you might as well expect disinformation and other sorts of opinion manipulation from all fronts. It's part of the game…
