    Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County's safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers.


    Job Summary:


    Performs accounting duties, completes monthly financial analysis and prepares audit schedules in support of the System Financial statements with a high level of complexity.

    Demonstrates the highest standards of accuracy, sound reasoning, and comprehensive synthesis. Evaluates and challenges current practices and methods for reporting and analyzing information. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

    Responsibilities:


    Contributes to patient safety by supporting the System-wide programs and policies addressing a safe environment for patients and the reporting of safety concerns to the appropriate individuals.

    Handles accounting assignments with high levels of complexity.

    Advances solid understanding of financial accounting in an operational healthcare environment and imparts knowledge and assists with training at the Staff Accountant I and II levels.

    Acts as team lead for functional areas of responsibility. Conducts first level of review of journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis.
    Prepares journal entries during monthly close process for all assigned areas of responsibility. Ensures entries are submitted timely, accurately and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Provides solid supporting documentation and presents issues and inquiries proactively.
    Completes balance sheet account reconciliations by established deadlines. Presents quality reconciliation with appropriate documentation and reconciling items investigated and explained.
    Analyzes assigned revenue and expense accounts for variances at designated levels. Provides thoughtful, well-researched and documented explanations. Completes analysis timely.

    Prepares all Prepared By Client (PBC) requests, work papers, and supporting documentation for both internal and external audits for areas of responsibility in a timely and accurate manner.

    Demonstrates proficiency in Lawson and other financial sub-ledger systems for areas of assignment; assists with scripting and testing for implementations/upgrades and maintains modules/sub-systems for areas of assignment.

    Demonstrates critical thinking skills including challenging the status quo, identifying and anticipating issues based on experience and information and challenges financial transactions for appropriateness.

    Works proactively to remedy issues quickly and escalates those issues which require assistance.
    Supports assigned clinical and administrative departments as needed to resolve accounting and reporting issues. Demonstrates timely response to departmental inquiries with high quality of feedback.
    Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Required:
    Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or other related field.
    Minimum of five years of financial accounting experience.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software products with a minimum of intermediate proficiency in MS Excel.
    Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
    Strong presentation, written and oral communication skills often requiring a diplomatic approach with customers.
    Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results on time with strong attention to detail.
    Willing and able to work additional hours as needed (i.e. during the month-end close process).
    Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

    Preferred:
    Master's degree and/or Current CPA license.
    Advanced MS Excel and other Microsoft Office Skills.
    Accounting experience in Healthcare industry.
    Public Accounting or Financial Reporting Experience.
    Experience with Infor Lawson.

    Physical Demands:
    May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
    May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
    See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
    Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
    Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
    May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.
