    TITLE: Youth Driver/Monitor

    STATUS: (Part-time non-exempt – 7am-11am or 12p-4pm)

    DEPARTMENT: Programs

    REPORTS TO: Unit Director

    SALARY RANGE: $18.00 – $20.00

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    The Youth Vehicle Driver/Monitor is responsible for operating a six or nine-passenger Boys & Girls Club vehicle to transport youth from school to the Clubhouse, assisting with the maintenance of Club vehicles and ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers. May be assigned a school site to supervise/monitor and interact with youth while waiting for the BGCGRR Club Van. May occasionally be needed to work with youth in the Club after completion of the scheduled route. This position follows the Redlands Unified School District Academic Calendar.

    KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

    1. Drive youth TK- 8th grade to and from school to the BGCGRR Clubhouse.
    2. Understands and adheres to all Club policies and procedures.
    3. Understand and implement the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside.
    4. Exemplify a positive role model for youth.
    5. Preserve the health and safety of all passengers.
    6. Help maintain a clean and safe vehicle.
    7. Maintain general cleanliness of the Club vehicle, including removing trash and items left behind by Club Members.
    8. Assure compliance with the directive requiring the number of passengers not to exceed the number of seat belts in the vehicle.
    9. Maintain and control discipline in the vehicle and report problems to the Unit Director.
    10. Maintain accurate reporting records.
    11. Inspect vehicles daily and record and report findings.
    12. Complete Accident/Incident Reports on all accidents/incidents that occur in the vehicle.
    13. Ensure that all licensing requirements are completed and kept up to date.
    14. Attend staff meetings as requested

    OTHER ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. May be asked to provide homework/academic support to students in 1st-8th grade.
    2. May be asked to participate in or drive Club vehicles for special programs and/or events.
    3. Must be able to provide constant active supervision when working with members.
    4. Monitor members at an assigned school site while waiting on van pickup.
    5. Perform related duties as assigned by the Unit Director.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Ability to understand highway safety rules and regulations.
    2. Ability to complete various forms and records, including route sheets, behavior forms, incident and accident reports
    3. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and precautions necessary to avoid accidents.
    4. Must have a clear driving record.
    5. Ability to operate a 6 and 9-passenger van safely and economically.
    6. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

    RELATIONSHIPS:

    Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

    External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Possess a valid Class C State Driver's License, held for a minimum of 3 years
    • Maintain a clean driving record that is satisfactory for continued employment as a Club vehicle driver
    • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (provided upon hire or obtained w/I 30 days).
    • Must be able to pass an online Defensive Driving Course (provided upon hire)
    • Experience working with youth.
    • Ability to interact professionally with community and academic partners.
    • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties without hazard to themselves or others.

    Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

    Ability to sit/drive a motor vehicle for extended periods.

    Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions and reach in all directions for extended period.

    Adequate site or corrected vision to read directions on printed or written materials.

    Exposure to various types of outdoor weather conditions
