    FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full time, 10 months paid over 12

    EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2024

    COMPENSATION: $69,626-$109,376 depending on education and years of

    teaching experience

    Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student-centered pedagogy. Our community is committed to cultivating each student's unique abilities and passions, and to facilitating opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of the Province of the West.

    Position Summary

    SHC's Visual & Performing Arts Department asks students to work individually and collaboratively to create projects and performances that express individual gifts and talents while providing service to others. By critically analyzing artistic mediums from a variety of cultures, time periods and movements, students acquire a depth and breadth of understanding about the world around them and within them. This is an on campus position. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

    Visual & Performing Arts Department Goals

    • Create in a variety of mediums.
    • Cultivate an appreciation of fine arts.
    • Develop techniques with which they can effectively express themselves in a physical and spiritual manner.
    • Explore questions of beauty and communication in human experience.
    • Practice time management, problem solving, perseverance, and design thinking both individually and collaboratively.
    • Plan and implement projects that bring joy to others and promote an understanding of the diversity of our human family.
    • Reflect on their own creative development as well as on that of other individuals and cultures.

    Specific Areas of Responsibility

    • Facilitates, oversees and is responsible for all aspects of Drama productions (Fall Play and Spring Musical) in collaboration with Theater Technical Director and others;
    • Provides academic and artistic leadership for all Drama classes, activities and groups;
    • Sustains and grows enrollment and participation in Drama classes and productions.

    Essential Duties, Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Model for students and the entire school community the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian educator;
    • Support and advance SHC's mission, philosophy and ISOs;
    • Design and / or implement courses and units that effectively promote the VPA department outcomes and course standards;
    • Plan what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed from an inquiry- and standards-based perspective;
    • Provide effective unit / lesson plans and classes within a block schedule;
    • Collaborate with other teachers to design, implement, and evaluate common assignments and assessments based on course and department outcomes;
    • Support an active, engaging academic learning experience for all students;
    • Provide regular and varied assessments of student learning to compile appropriate grades and properly determine what and how all students are learning;
    • Communicate clearly and consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;
    • Demonstrate familiarity with best practices in pedagogy and resourceful use of educational technology;
    • Work with the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to accommodate appropriately students who have special learning needs;
    • Keep current and complete electronic grading and attendance records;
    • Support all the co-curricular programs of the school community.

    Required Qualifications

    • Undergraduate degree in Dramatic Arts or a related subject;
    • Teaching credential or working towards it;
    • Experience working with high school students from diverse backgrounds;
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to promote student learning.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in development and implementation of professional development activities preferred.
    • Experience working in a Catholic school setting

    Computer Skills:
