ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Non rotating 40 hour work week. Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Represent the city in criminal trials by making motions, appeals, and mediations for the City of Corpus Christi in County Court, administrative proceedings, and public meetings.

Negotiate terms of agreements and legal documents with opposing council and third parties. Prepare questions, arguments, motions and briefs.

Investigate information pertaining to legal matters by obtaining copies of all relevant documents including originals and copies. Interview and determine potential witnesses, and arrange for an appropriate examination of testing physical evidence.

Research and analyze legal issues by reviewing statutes, regulations, and cases; research books, publications, internet and electronic legal services. Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, memos, and training materials.

Council City departments and outside organizations by communicating the law and addressing issues that needs to be considered before action is taken.

Review documents for legal sufficiency and appropriateness. Perform miscellaneous duties including participating on other City functions. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requires a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and one (1) years' experience.

Must be a licensed attorney and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas at time of application and hire.

A valid driver's license is required at time of application and hire.

Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Closing Statement

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.

In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive".

All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing, pursuant to City policy, HR 15.0 Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
