    This is a senior leadership role and reports to AVP of Akamai Public Sector- DoD and Intel.

    In this role, you are responsible for running some of the engineering resources that include customer-specific delivery teams for our Akamai Defense business.

    The role requires close collaboration with our platform engineering, operations, customer engagement, and sales leadership to define and then deliver bespoke software services that improve the performance and security of our customer's most critical networked applications.

    As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for:

    • Working with our customers and internal cross-functional groups to understand the challenges our customer's face in delivering and securing their applicationsÂ
    • Conceiving, purposing, prototyping and fielding innovative solutions leveraging our Managed CDN platform to solve problem
    • Building mutually beneficial relationships with key engineering leaders at Akamai corporate
    • Collaborating directly with our key Akamai Defense leaders (engineering, operations, architecture, SRE, customer engagement, and sales)
    • Liaising with various teams to ensure customer-specific issues are resolved in a timely and thorough manner.
    • Ensuring our Managed CDN platform meets the highest possible standards for security, performance, and availability.
    • Fostering a high-performance culture where responsibility and accountability are freely given and expected by all team members.

    To be successful in this role you will:

    • Have 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, relevant engineering field or equivalent experience
    • Have experience in software development management with a track record of delivering large-scale software services
    • Have hands-on software development and proficiency in two or more of the following programming languages:C, C , Java, Perl, or Python
    • Have hands-on operations experience in large-scale, networked, UNIX/Linux environments
    • Be knowledgeable of key Internet protocols and many of their open-source client and server implementations : TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS
    • Demonstrate ability to forge and sustain productive individual and group relationships across organizational boundaries.
    • Have US citizenship and either have a US Government security clearance or the ability to obtain clearance

    Compensation
    Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

    The base salary for this position ranges from $183,830 - $293,999/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.

    The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
