About the roleSearch (both Text and Voice) is a critical user journey on Roku platform. It is one of the most popular ways for Roku users to discover and watch their favorite content. At the heart of an exceptional search experience lies a deep understanding of queries, content, and user behavior.
This understanding, powered by AI/ML, Search UX, and a modern search platform stack, is fundamental to enhancing user satisfaction throughout their search journey.
To further our commitment to this mission, we are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Search Organization.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers who are responsible for building and maintaining the search platform and services that power the Roku search experience.
You will collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineering teams to deliver innovative and scalable solutions that delight our users and drive business growth.
You will also mentor and coach your team members, foster a culture of excellence and innovation, and help shape the future of search at Roku.
What you'll be doing
Manage, coach, and develop a team of software engineers who work on various aspects of the search platform and services, such as indexing, ranking, relevance, query understanding, personalization, and analytics.
Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the search platformand services, in alignment with the product and business goals.
Ensure the quality, performance, reliability, and security of the search platform and services, and establish best practices and standards for engineering excellence.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders, such as product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineering teams, to understand user needs, define requirements, and deliver solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
Drive innovation and experimentation in the search domain and leverage the latest technologies and techniques to enhance the search experience and outcomes.

8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years of engineering management experience.
Proven
track record
of leading and delivering large-scale, high-performance, and reliable search systems and services, preferably in the streaming, e-commerce, or media
domains.
Strong knowledge of search technologies and methodologies, such as Lucene,
Solr
,
e
lasticsearch
, NLP, ML, ranking, relevance, query understanding, personalization, and analytics.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence and drive decisions across multiple teams and levels.
