- Lead the process to support the Chief of Academics with developing and/or refining priorities for Academics and ensure operational efficiency and proper resource allocation.
- Direct operational units, including oversight of the following roles: Project Manager, Academics, Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, Coordinator of Curriculum Operations, and the Manager, Professional Learning. In addition to acting as an advisor to the Associate Chief of Academics, Executive Directors, and Directors when making final decisions, examining and evaluating current processes, identifying and solving barriers.
- Develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programs. In addition, coordinating with leads across each function within Academics to develop tools/ processes to support implementation of priorities, plan for evaluation, and refine approach. Develop and manage processes, in partnership with the Finance team, for budget development to support academic operations, ensuring efficient use of resources to support district goals.
- Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies while maintaining high-quality student programming. Ensures budget and schedules, for each function within Academics (Multilingual Education, Specialized Services, Specialized Instruction, Teaching and Learning, Career and College Success, Professional Learning, etc.) meet all business requirements and established Board, State, and Federal policy requirements.
- Identify additional needed resources and/or capacity to support constituents across Academics with meeting the goals and priorities established by the Chief of Academics, Deputy Superintendent, and Superintendent, including but not limited to managing large contracts and progress monitoring bodies of work.
- Coordinate and build collaborative relationships with departments across DPS including Talent, Finance, Strategic Operations. Develop systems to support constituents across academics by collecting and analyzing data related to academic performance and student outcomes to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Prepare and refine regular reports and presentations for district leadership on key performance indicators and academic trends.
- Coordinate and act as a spokesperson for the Chief of Academics, as needed, with external groups both locally in Denver and nationally in the education sector. This involves engaging with various stakeholders such as families, students, teachers, labor unions, the DPS Board of Education, advocacy groups, nonprofits, and philanthropic organizations.
- Develop, implement, and manage Academic's approach to communication with varied constituents, including but not limited to updating the DPS website.
- Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a related field.
- Two (2) or more years of management experience and/or managing large bodies of work that require organizing and/or aligning various constituents.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
- Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy.
- Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
- Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.

In collaboration with the Chief of Academics, the Director of Academic Operations will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing the long-term vision and strategic plan for Denver Public Schools' (DPS) Academics Department. Additionally, they will be an integral part of both the Chief of Academic's Executive Leadership Team and the Office of School's Leadership Team. The Director of Academic Operations will be accountable for ensuring that the Academics team possesses the necessary infrastructure, strategy, and resources to execute the instructional vision in line with the DPS Strategic Roadmap. They will oversee, plan, and guide team initiatives to ensure the successful implementation and impact of academic programs, thus contributing to the attainment of district objectives. This role demands a strategic thinker with a comprehensive grasp of both the local and national educational landscapes, as well as expertise in resource allocation, operational efficiency, and a steadfast dedication to advancing student achievement in alignment with the instructional vision for DPS and its strategic roadmap.
