    Brief Description

    Job Summary

    Under general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies develops and implements sponsorship sales and marketing strategies for the City of Greenville Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department. Sells sponsorships, maintains database, and builds sponsor relationships. Works collaboratively to develop creative marketing strategies for department through digital, social, and on-site campaigns. Performs supportive marketing duties related to the daily operation of the department. Develops, coordinates, and implements special events and programs.

    • Develop and Assist in Sponsorship Sales: Solicit event sponsorship to local and regional companies, including all business categories. Develop sponsorship packages and pricing. Prepare proposals, sponsorship contracts, presentation, and collateral materials. Maintains budget and invoicing for event VIP areas. Ensures successful sales through lead generation and sponsor retention and maintaining sales goals/objectives. Work with Sales & Marketing Manager to create annual event sponsor budget (sales forecasts and expenses). Works with clients and internal colleagues to ensure effective delivery of expected goals and sponsorship benefits. Follow up on client requests, concerns, and problems. Respond to sponsorship inquiries and requests. Work with sponsors to complete fulfillment, regarding onsite activation, signage placement, fulfillment reports, compliance photos, client visits, etc. Research sponsor prospects and set meetings. Work with Operations Coordinator to determine sponsor site needs and on-site sponsor logistics needs for all events.

    • Perform Marketing and Media Relations Duties: Distribute marketing materials (flyers, posters, programs, brochures, invitations, maps, etc.). Identify prospects and create customized partnership programs using media-TV, radio, print, online, social media. Determine appropriate marketing strategies. Execute a wide variety of details that involve email broadcasts, outbound calls, events, promotions, and other marketing plans. Maintain media ad calendar and research new marketing ideas as they are generated. Prepare and communicate proposals. Attend network and promotional events to develop and maintain contact with potential clients and professional bodies. Research and apply for awards relating to City's special events and contracted festivals.

    • Perform Event Site Preparation and Removal: Conduct site visits and provide event set up and breakdown to include banners, tables, chairs, and signage. Act as sponsor liaison for all City events and contracted festivals ensure all benefits are delivered.

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, management, or related field.
    • Over two years of experience in marketing, communications, or related field.
    • CPR, First Aid, & AED certification within one year of employment.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in sponsorship sales highly preferred.
    • Experience planning and managing events.
    Driver's License Requirements
    • Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

    • Trends and current developments in marketing, including social media, sponsorship activation, benefits and deliverables, and special event planning.
    • Creation and maintenance of budgets.
    • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.

    Ability to:
    • Read, comprehend, and apply knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and procedures as they relate to City programs and events.
    • Respond to and resolve difficult citizen inquiries and complaints, and advise the public on policies, procedures & regulations.
    • Respond to sponsorship inquiries in a clear and concise manner.
    • Use telephone and personal outreach to solicit new sponsors and partners.
    • Develop and foster relationships with sponsors and partners.
    • Create and develop custom sponsorship proposals for potential partners.
    • Deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement.
    • Write policies, contracts, speeches, formal presentations, and/or technical and legal documents and correspondence.
    • Think independently and the ability to conceptualize and develop new or improved procedures, techniques or ideas appropriate to the work environment.
    • Work independently and exercise effective judgment and professional thinking.
    • Supervise seasonal workers and interns and motivate, train, and counsel as required.
    • Prioritize workload and manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local and regional business leaders, City departments, general public, and key stakeholders.
    • Successfully complete time-sensitive and/or high-profile projects through collaboration, consensus, and creativity.
    • Proficiently use software and systems to include graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, to include Photoshop and Illustrator), social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Hootsuite), and other software utilized by the City.
    • Operate department equipment to include DSLR cameras and associated lenses, hand trucks, and vehicles.
    • Operate general office equipment to include scanner, printer, copier, calculator, telephone, and computer with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Operate the following machines, tools, and equipment: box truck, light towers, credit card machine, audio visual equipment, vehicle, golf cart, movie screen and projector, two-way radio, generator, laminating machine, backpack blower, Zamboni, dehydrator, ice skate sharpener, and handcarts.

    Working Conditions

    Primary Work Location: Office environment, vehicle, and outdoors during event season.

    Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Weekly exposure to wetness and/or humidity. Monthly exposure to extreme temperatures.

    Physical Demands:

    Medium strength demands include exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Continuously requires fine dexterity, using vision, bending, using hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, and pushing/pulling. Occasionally requires climbing, foot controls, balancing, and crouching.

    Mental Demands:

    Frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, irregular schedule/overtime, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, and tedious or exacting work. Occasionally requires emergency situations and noisy/distracting environment.
