    We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our mission driven organization. This role is an excellent opportunity to utilize and expand your accounting skills in a rewarding and mission-driven environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the accounting team to ensure the smooth operation of all departmental matters. The role requires a high level of precision, an ability to work independently, and strong problem-solving skills. The Accounting Specialist will report directly to the Accounts Receivable Supervisor.

    Job Details

    Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for managing the mail daily (which includes disbursing to appropriate depts. and preparing checks for deposit).
    2. Managing the San Diego location's office supplies.
    3. Research outstanding balances with county, community, or state programs to facilitate collections.
    4. Prepare youth saving statements monthly.
    5. Assist with preparing month-end financial statement schedules.
    6. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable with various projects.
    7. Review and provide weekly reporting of active grants to staff and managers.
    8. Assist the Controller with preparing audit schedules and requests for information.
    9. Prepare budgets for Request for Proposals and grants as requested.
    10. Prepare monthly contract billing statements.
    11. Collaborate with the accounting department to support overall department goals and objectives.
    12. Respond to inquiries from the Controller, and other finance and firm-wide managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
    13. Work with the accounting staff to ensure clean and timely audits.
    14. Other duties as assigned.

    EMPLOYEE STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

    SALARY RANGE: $23 - $27 per hour

    PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: Controller

    Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree preferred.
    2. A minimum of 2 years of hands-on accounting experience.
    3. Experience in a non-profit organization preferred, but not required.
    4. Proficient in accounting software and MS Office (especially Excel).
    5. Strong knowledge of accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    6. High attention to detail and accuracy.
    7. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
    8. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
    9. Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
    10. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff, both internally and externally.
    11. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
