Description
Selectek is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer in the Atlanta, GA area.This position is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who has a minimum of ten years of experience working in the power industry (or other engineering fields) and has a strong desire to learn and ability to develop a long-term career path in the area of Transmission Planning and Services.
Salary Range is $110-120k + bonus potential.Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Independently perform load flow analysis of 46 kV and above transmission systems as part of short term and long term system planning studies to meet NERC's reliability standards.
Independently perform load flow analysis of 46 kV and above transmission systems as part of local area planning studies to address needs in the short term and long term.
Evaluate existing transmission facilities that serve our participants as directed.ÂInitiate and develop improvement projects to accommodate load growth or improved reliability for the short term and long term.
Coordinate design, engineering, and construction for the new or improvement projects identified under system or area planning.
Participate and perform necessary joint planning studies with other ITS (Integrated Transmission Systems – four co-owners of the Georgia transmission grid) members and neighboring electric utilities.
Provide direction to other Planning Engineers to perform various studies as required.Assume responsibility for area planning associated with our Participants assigned by Manager of the group. This should include meeting with Participants to discuss needs and concerns associated with existing Transmission system.Â
Review loads on substations and operational history of transmission lines to determine timing of required projects to provide reliable service and adequate capacity for the Participant to serve its loads.
ÂProvide input to the ITS Construction Budget and Forecast to optimize timing for these required projects.Â
Meet with Participants on an annual basis to present and discuss APTR (Annual Participant Transmission Report) that provides an overview of the transmission and substation facilities that serve the Participant.
ÂProvide an update of the peak loads yearly for each of the Participant's meter points by late Fall following the summer peaks.
ÂProvide information to the Participant for projects that will either impact them, or be constructed near their transmission system. This information will generally come from the Joint Subcommittee for Transmission Planning (JSTP), or one of its sub-groups.Â
Review projects proposed by other ITS members to determine if the optimum solution was chosen based on the problem identified, and the possible solutions considered.
This may require a range of actions from asking questions of the sponsoring ITS member, to participating in working groups focused on a given area.
The value of projects proposed by all ITS members can exceed $300 million per year.Â
Required:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
10-15 years electric utility industry experience or related experience.
Pay range:
$110,000 - $120,000 plus bonuses
