- The Assistant Principal consistently places students at the center of their work. They actively engage with families and the community to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment.
- Assists and/or establishes the development of the master schedule for instructional programs, instructional assignments, and planning for the sequential learning experiences of students consistent with the school's philosophy, mission, and instructional goals.
- Collaborates, coordinates, and assists in developing and improving instructional programs within the school.
- Assists in defining and disseminating information concerning school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff, and the community.
- Provides mentoring to staff and provides direction in their career and professional development.
- Assists staff in understanding building and District policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Assists in recruiting, screening, selecting, assigning, and training new personnel.
- Assists in supervising school activities involving students, teachers, and other school personnel.
- Public relations, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Works with children, staff, parents, administrators, and other educational professionals over parent and student issues and concerns. Interactions require persuasion, instruction, and working with others to gain cooperation and understanding of academic problems/needs.
- Directly supervises Teachers, Deans, Counselors, and Social Workers.
- Indirectly supervises Building administrative assistants and Paraprofessionals.
- Has responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of employees in accordance with School District policies and applicable laws.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
- Supervises and evaluates teachers and departments in collaboration with the Building Principal.
- Conducts teacher observations and formal performance evaluations.
- Delegation of authority, including assigning tasks so they can be accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner, utilizing subordinates appropriately, and following up on work tasks.

- Master's Degree.
- Multilingual or Spanish preferred.
- Experience with language acquisition and language immersion education.
- Minimum of three (3) years administrative experience supervising instructional programming and staff.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the building Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in providing leadership in implementing the instructional programs, building administration, staff supervision, pupil services, and school/community relations. The Assistant Principal shares the responsibilities of the Principal, as delegated, and assumes responsibilities for building programs, operations, and staff in their absence.
