    Human Resources Generalist

    Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, founded in 1967, is the nation's first community development corporation nestled in the heart of Central Brooklyn in Bed-Stuy. Located at Restoration Plaza, a 300,000 square foot commercial complex that offers a mix of retail, dining, recreation and entertainment, this historic organization is steeped in its mission to close the racial wealth gap. We provide direct services across an economic mobility platform centered on workforce development, affordable housing/homeownership, community revitalization, small business development and arts and culture to 60,000 people annually.

    About the Role

    Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Generalist will run daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including enforcing company policies and practices, benefits, leave, overseeing the hiring process including interviewing and selecting candidates based on skills and talent, and implementing a training program to develop and sustain high-performing teams and staff. This role will operationalize a fully paperless Human Resources Department while supporting employees throughout their employment life cycle.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development/succession planning.
    • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers and executives to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
    • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
    • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
    • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
    • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
    • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
    • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
    • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    What you bring to the role

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent, two to three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • SHRM certified professional or PHR certified professional.
    • Able to champion new ideas, manage change, and execute on action plans.
    • Experience in all HR concentration areas such as benefits; compensation; workforce planning and employment; employee relations; occupational health, safety and security; strategic management; employee development; and training.
    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
    • Proficient in ADP Workforce Now HR and Payroll, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
    • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
    • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
    • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
    • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
    • Knowledge of PayScale is a plus
