JOB DESCRIPTION:
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York Bureau City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear and maintain order.

The Legal Bureau serves as in-house counsel to the Department and assist members of the service in interpreting local, state, and federal laws.
The Bureau represents the Department in a variety of civil matters, produces records and video footage to external oversight bodies and for litigation, reviews and negotiates complex contracts and memoranda of understanding, and assesses Department policies, practices, procedures, and forms for legal sufficiency and conformance with the law.
The New York City Police Department's Police Action Litigation Section assists the NYC Law Department in the defense of litigation against the City, the Police Department, and individual members of the service, where such litigation arises from police enforcement action.
The Section functions as the primary liaison to the NYC Law Department to reduce financial exposure for the City and the Department, all of which impacts the success of the Department's primary law enforcement mission.
The Section's objective is to increase the effectiveness of the Departments law enforcementactions while decreasing its civil liability.
The specific duties and responsibilities of an Associate Staff Analyst assigned to the Legal Bureau's Police Action

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
