Staff Analyst Trainee I (TA): $49,599 - $52,571 (

New Hire Rate:
$43,129)

Staff Analyst Trainee I (OA): $50,924 - $53,980

Staff Analyst Trainee II (TA): $53,565 - $59,520 (

New Hire Rate:
$46,580)

Staff Analyst Trainee II (OA): $55,001 - $61,111


Responsibilities:


Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the trainee will assist in a broad range of analytical, administrative and research support tasks for the Customer Claims unit.

These tasks include, but are not limited to assisting in, providing support to process over 300K claims annually received through multiple channels such as web, telephone, in-person customer service centers and mail; providing support for future OMNY related claims and queries; utilize various computer databases to perform substantial data processing, research and analysis of data in order to resolve customer-claims relating to MetroCard and OMNY issues; draft responses to routine and complex claims; encode MetroCard media; process refunds via check/credit/debit; assist in swiping farecard media to obtain transaction data from mainframe; logging files for long term storage; and assist in maintaining filing system of physical records.


Education and Experience:

Staff Analyst Trainee I:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory fulltime professional experience in one or a combination of the following areas: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; or in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; or in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or
  • A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education, or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory fulltime professional experience as described in "b" above; or

Staff Analyst Trainee II:
Completion of 1 year of satisfactory service at Step 1


Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of Reduced Fare, Customer Claims or Fare Media Programs.
  • Knowledgeable in fare pricing, smartcard technology and OMNY systems.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical, basic mathematical and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and exercise good Judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent PC skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word. Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Crystal.
  • Excellent telephone communication and sensitivity skills.
  • Ability to work in high volume environment.

Selection Method:
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
