    W2 Contract

    Job Summary:


    We seek a high-achieving, mid-career professional with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for effective lab workflow and safety to be the Lab Operations Manager, EHS, onsite in South San Francisco.

    Working with the Site Director and our Strategic Director of EHS, you will uncover and address laboratory management and environmental, health, and safety needs and provide support for lab closure activities.

    You must be highly self-motivated, always professional, and able to prioritize your workload in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Things change fast and frequently.

    Therefore, we need someone at the top of their game who can shift gears, change directions, and keep going at pace.

    We need an intelligent, strategic thinker and a tactical executor with EHS expertise, deep knowledge of biotech and chemistry labs, and general business knowledge.


    Duties and Responsibilities:


    Manage all general laboratory operations necessary to keep labs running safely and efficiently, including waste consolidation and removal, gas tank exchanges, tissue culture room maintenance, and hazardous waste disposal.

    Coordinate and ensure proper maintenance of lab equipment. If equipment breaks, schedule repairs quickly and provide support for repair calls.
    Ensure full compliance with Environmental Health and Safety programs and regulations.

    Ensure all equipment databases and other documentation are up-to-date including inventory and Safety Data Sheets of hazardous, corrosive, or flammable chemicals that enter the facility.

    Order, receive, and safely place liquid nitrogen Dewar containers.
    Limited weekend and after-hours support is needed for member relocations.
    Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses, and property damage. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and maintain proper records and documents.


    Requirements and Qualifications:
    A track record of success in building and maintaining effective and safe lab environments in a growing company, with a strong understanding of the processes, equipment, and requirements needed in a research organization, both for molecular biology and chemistry labs

    Experience implementing site health and safety programs and taking necessary steps to ensure a safe work environment for all employees.

    Life Sciences degree; BS in Biology or Chemistry preferred
    4 to 6 years of laboratory and EHS management experience
    Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal practices
    Has DOT and RCRA certifications
    Knowledge of OSHA, DEP, EPA, RCRA, DOT, DPH, MWRA, NIH, or NFPA, and other laboratory regulations and guidelines
    Intermediate-level Microsoft Office skills.
    Able to work collaboratively, at all levels, and cross-functionally.
    Able to learn new tools and applications when and where needed.
    Vendor management of chemical and biological waste vendor
    Highly organized, with excellent judgment and strong project management and problem-solving skills.
    Enjoys teaching and mentoring others.
    Strong bias-to-action, proactive, self-motivated, and passionate about your work
