    Department Summary

    Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to infants, toddlers, and preschool children in Lane County.

    Early Childhood CARES is the early intervention/early childhood special education program for young children with delays and disabilities in Lane County and is an outreach program in the College of Education.

    Over 1600 children who have developmental delays or disabilities are served each year.

    Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation, parent-toddler groups, specialized preschools, consultation to children in community preschools or child care, and speech, physical or occupational therapy.

    Staff who work for Early Childhood CARES have teaching licenses or state authorization to teach young children. They are specialists in early intervention/early childhood special education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, autism, and behavior.

    Position Summary

    The Early Childhood CARES Program Coordinator (PC) provides clinical supervision to 25-30 Service Coordinators/Clinical Assistant Professors who are licensed EI/ECSE professionals providing educational services to birth to 5-year-old children with disabilities in their Region.

    The Program Coordinator is responsible for the educational services offered and delivered to approximately children and their families.

    The Program Coordinator (PC) assigns caseloads and supervises clinical academic staff, coordinates educational services including classrooms, and works with community partners.

    The PC ensures compliance with programs, state and federal timelines, laws, and procedures in their geographic region. The PC position requires high-level clinical problem-solving and communication skills.

    The Program Coordinator ensures that Early Childhood CARES provides a quality practicum for practicum students and interns at the University.

    This position reports to the Co-Directors of Early Childhood CARES.
    Position includes five weeks of work in the summer.
    Contracts are renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and continued funding.

    Additional Expectations of the Position:

    • This position will require a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification.

    • Master's degree in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Speech Pathology, or related field (or the highest degree available).
    • A TSPC administrator license or EI/ECSE Supervisor Authorization from the Oregon Department of Education is required within one year of employment.
    • Five years of experience working as a licensed professional in the field of EI/ECSE.
    • Working knowledge of the federal and state laws and regulations that govern EI/ECSE.
    • Experience training and supervising EI/ECSE professionals.
    • Experience in developing and monitoring IFSPs, especially identifying and writing goals and outcomes.
    • This position will require registration in the Oregon Central Background Check and the applicant must have the ability to commute to various program sites and meeting locations.
    • Ability to problem solve with parents and staff and work effectively with challenging personnel or child/family situations.
    • Ability to make effective decisions that benefit children and Early Childhood CARES.
    • Ability to be highly organized.
    • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Working knowledge of employment issues for classified and academic employees.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Ten years' experience working in the field of EI/ECSE.
    • Experience collaborating in partnership with research activities.
