    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.     Position Summary

    The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City seeks a talented, highly motivated Data Coordinator with a strong data analysis background. Interest and/or knowledge in infectious disease and/or genomic epidemiology is preferred. The candidate will lead data management and analyses of genomic, spatial and clinical data from NIH funded projects related to tuberculosis (TB) epidemiology in South Africa.

    Primarily, the incumbent will work on a recent NIH funded project examining the emergence of drug resistance to novel TB medications in South Africa, with the expanded use of these novel medications in the treatment regimens of all drug-resistant TB cases in the country. The study involves collection of epidemiologic, microbiologic, spatial and genomic data. Key activities will include data cleaning, coordination, harmonization, analysis and isolate tracking. The incumbent will also work on an NIH funded study examining the role that spatial clusters of TB transmission play in the community TB burden and the effectiveness and efficiency of targeted active case finding in these locations.

    The incumbent will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will assist in database management and analysis, data coordination, data quality control, development and preparation of manuscripts and scientific presentations, managing IRB and other reporting duties. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned. This position offers opportunities for additional training in epidemiologic and genomic analysis, as well as scientific publishing.

    Responsibilities

    Maintain TB research databases (including design, implementation, data cleaning, harmonization, and visualization), maintain database dictionaries and modification logs. - 25%

    Develop policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. - 5%

    Monitor daily database processes and responds to alerts. - 10%

    Develop and prepare regular data quality reports. - 5%

    Perform data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results (manuscripts, presentations, posters). - 25%

    Preparation and submission of study protocols, amendments, renewals and other regulatory bodies. - 10%

    Tracking of participant TB isolates and missing information - 10%

    Coordinating with other study stakeholders on achievement of grant implementation milestones. - 5%

    Perform other related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested - 5%

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree or equivalent in epidemiology, public health, data science or applied biostatistics. In addition, applicants with Master's degree in biology with a concentration in microbiology or population biology/genetics with data analytic experience will be considered.
    • Must be able to independently learn new skills required for data management.
    • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills including proficiency in statistical software such as R, REDCap, STATA, SPSS, SAS or other major statistical packages.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge and interest in infectious disease epidemiology and/or global health.
    • Familiarity with data visualization and harmonization.
    • Familiarity with genomic data analysis.
    • Experience in database development and management.
    • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
    • Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.
    • Detail-oriented, with superior organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and the ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times.
    • Willingness to travel internationally.
