    The Media and Public Communications Office (MPCO) includes the Media Relations Unit, the Creative Services Unit and the Events Unit. The MPCO collaborates to create clear, concise communications campaigns that tell the CEC story to internal and external stakeholders. Our work increases understanding and awareness, inspires action and empowers decision-making to advance the state's climate and clean energy goals.

    Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II (Media Relations and Events Manager) the Staff Services Manager (SSM) I supports the California Energy Commission's (CEC) overall communications strategy by overseeing the Media and Public Communications Office Events Unit.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    1. Ability to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some overtime and alternate work schedule changes as necessary.

    2. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    3. Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

    4. Ability to recommend workable solutions in a tactful, constructive manner.

    5. Experience managing projects and high-performing teams.

    6. Experience producing and managing events.

    7. Background in public relations or marketing.

    8. Experience using Office 365 tools including Teams, Planner and SharePoint.

    9. Experience writing in plain language while adhering to style and brand guidelines.

    10. Experience working in a customer-service-oriented environment.

    11. Knowledge of state human resources, budgeting, and purchasing policies and procedures.

    12. Knowledge of or an interest in California climate and clean energy policy.

    13. Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
