As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.
GRADE ASTD19 LOCATION OF POSITION There are three positions available located in the following counties:BALTIMORE CITY
POSITION DUTIES Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisors oversee and manage the work of professional Rehabilitation Counselors, support staff, and/or Teachers for the Blind within an assigned district.
They are responsible for planning, directing, and organizing the vocational rehabilitation programs and/or independent living older blind services and services to the consumers within the district.
They ensure counselors and staff apply federal and state laws, regulations and division policy in the provision of vocational rehabilitation services and/or independent living older blind services program.
They review and approve eligibility determination decisions, the planning and implementation of vocational rehabilitation and/or independent living older blind services, which includes the oversight of service expenditures.
They coordinate hiring, training, and professional development for staff, and all other related personnel responsibilities. They manage all office related functions, including lease management and maintenance of physical office space.Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisors are experienced in the provision of vocational rehabilitation services and/or independent living older blind services, requiring expert knowledge of medical conditions that result in disability and impact employment and independent living.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
A Master's Degree and/or course work in Management, Supervision or Administration
EXPERIENCE:
Four years of professional work experience in providing rehabilitation services.
Two years of which must have been as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist at the full performance level within the designated option.
Two years of the required experience must have included specialized experience in providing rehabilitation counseling, vocational evaluation, or employer relation services to clients with physical or mental disabilities; or teaching services to clients with partial or total visual impairment.
